Fear of Brain Cancer Has Kept Him Out

Scott Hamilton has had cancer. Scott Hamilton has been a wonderful ice skater and competitor for many, many years. Scott Hamilton is truly an inspiration.

We look to two sources regarding Scott Hamilton. One is the Academy of Achievement that provides a biography and also an article by The Huffington Post titled "Scott Hamilton Skating Again: RETURN To Ice Provides Inspiration For Thanksgiving Special (VIDEO).

What is amazing is that Scott Hamilton has been off of the ice for five years. He is a survivor of testicular cancer and this situation related to brain cancer. However he says "I decided this year to take charge of my health, and get back on the ice after five years...If you don't ask your body to do something, you'll never get an answer."

There is so much about Scott Hamilton that I didn't know and is inspiring.

He was adopted at six-weeks-old. He stopped growing at five-feet and 2 ½ inches. His mother was a teacher and actually went back to school to be a college professor so she could afford his skating lessons.

Of course Hamilton has won numerous first-place medals as well as an Olympic Gold.

He has an incredible "on-ice" sense of humor.

Scott Hamilton married Tracie November 14th, 2002 and they have two children.

One of the things that Scott Hamilton is noted for is creating work for male skaters. For a long time female skaters were the ones who had the spotlight and he proved there was a market.

The reason that Scott Hamilton is in the news is that on November 26th, he is going to be returning to the ice on Fox Television.

Even more interesting is that he will be sharing the ice with Dorothy Hamill. Both of them have battled cancer. Further Hamill will be skating to Olivia Newton John who is a cancer survivor.

I remember many years ago seeing Scott Hamilton in person. He was a great athlete and he has a signature back flip that the crowd watches for.

However, his sense of humor and his "connection" with the audience is what makes him a "star." He is one person who should be given the moniker "inspiration because that is what he is.
