Scott MacIntyre is Getting There, but Still Has a Long Way to Go

This may sound a little harsh, but Scott MacIntyre has no place on American Idol. He may survive the week, but it is only a matter of time before he gets thrown out of the competition. They say you either have it or you don't and he surely does not have it.

One of the weakest parts of Scott's performances has been that he had been selecting the wrong song week after week. This is one thing that he absolutely nailed this week. He claims time and again that he is a singer/songwriter and that using the piano on stage is part of who he is. Unfortunately, I just don't think that he is very good.

The negative impression started when he walked out on stage. The hair style was almost comical. He had his hair poofed up in a lion's mane, and it is just looked ridiculous. It was rather hard to concentrate on his singing as it was just too comical to look past. Your focus was quickly regained though as he tried to hit a couple of high notes and it sounded more like someone whining than someone trying to sing one of Billy Joel's greatest hits.

One thing that the judges stress time and again is that they want the singers to make the songs their own. Scott's version seemed like a karaoke attempt at a classic. It was unimpressive and a little sloppy. There were far too many really bad performances for him to have to worry about getting eliminated, but his exit is probably on a week or so away.

It is as though he is living off of other people flopping versus him doing well. Scott needs to find his groove soon or he is going to be out. From this point forward, he is going to have to have the perfect song and the perfect performance because he is way behind in talent to the rest of this crew.
