Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: A Movie Review
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is Ride Worth More Than What You Pay to See It
With this achievement of a pleasurable movie event which all but covers the spectrum from comedy, to romance, to action movie, to musical, to anime, and back to comedy again, all while developing plenty of conflict, proves that with movie magic, our hero can even be missing a chin. We just don't care when he's in a band, right? Underachievers need a hero, too. Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World is a graphic novel-turned-movie, so its premiere even came pre-loaded with its own fan-base.
Just think about how much gratitude we all now owe 2010 for being the year when this masterpiece of humor was released. Michael Bacall and Edgar Wright imagined the initial screenplay, along with Brian Lee O'Malley for the graphics, all set to a refreshing soundtrack. Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World takes all of the senses full on. Okay, maybe not the tongue's gustatory sensual nodes, or the olfactory sensors and let's forget anything tactile too, but the eyes, ears get worked out, and that's three of the dozen or so senses, or something.
Who stars in Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, anyway? Michael Cera stars as Scott Pilgrim (Cue background music for his bad-a$$-ness. His last name means "wax" in Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian. Who cares why it matters? It just does.). Along with his "mad skilz" are those of Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers, Ellen Wong as Knives Chau, Allison Pill as Kim Pine, Mark Webber as Stephen Stills, Johnny Simmons as Young Neil, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Kristina Pesic as Sandra, Brie Larson as Natalie V/Envy Adams, Satya Bhabba as Matthew Patel, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram, and a brief entrance of Ben Lewis as Other Scott.
But what's an adventure without Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves? He's not the only antagonist, but he is the big boss of the bad guys in the climax. Why this brilliance didn't rate first billing - any of these listed for my review - is just beyond me. No, really. It's beyond me. I really don't know why movie-makers do things that way. Probably because I do not work on sets, right? Maye one of them might stop by, and clear it up for me/us.
What's the verdict on Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World? Guilty on all counts, yer Honor, guilty of kicking my butt while I sat! This production is one of those rare gems about which I get to comment and not ruin the story. For instance, we know the good guy wins in Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, but how? I'm not telling. We know there's tons o' funny inside this box, but there's still no describing what a sincere 63-second-straight laugh feels like, and I refuse to tell you what happens to bring you to it. No! You're just going to have to buck up, be strong, and watch this one, for yourself.
The fight scenes and various other effects are wonderful, and must have taken months of work to choreograph, edit, and otherwise assemble. Did I mention the soundtrack yet? Genuinely good, original, unique music is so rare nowadays, but even more precious, is that same sheet-music performed so well. So, mentioning it twice is no error. Even the grandparents might find themselves falling for rock. What a brave adventure into sincerely funny, honestly-performed humor.
Fellow parents: Outside of one nicely-shaped, and solid black panty-clad bootay shot, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World would even be fun for the younger ones. Thank you Hollywood. Thank you. You finally showed us, and yourselves, that real good movies can still be made.

Hi Priscilla. The logging in issue seems to stem from us being on two sites at once; Yahoo! and AC.
Interesting review. Does the computer hate me, or is everybody else getting this "unwelcome guest" treatment when they ARE LOGGED IN?
Great review!
My daughter loves this movie.
I just added a notice for fellow parents. Please share this with other parents you may know that, might want something the whole family could enjoy.
Isn't he, though, Sheryl? Thanks Abby. Yeah, Janet. I got bonus coinage for picking that movie. Glad to hear from you again, John. It's been a while. Thank you.
