While it is unlikely at this point that Sink will win, Floridian stomachs are churning as a dreaded word is being thrown around: recount. According to Fox News' morning show, Sink would need to gain about 40,000 votes to trigger an automatic recount. Of course no one is surprised, Florida is the state of the infamous hanging chad of the 2000 presidential elections (in addition to the pregnant chad and dimple chad). At least Floridians can thank their lucky stars that punch cards will not be involved in this election.
This race has cost millions and captured national spotlight, as Florida is a volatile swing state and can boast 27 electoral votes in a presidential election. If Scott wins, he would be able to thank the wave of Republicans that came out during early voting that vastly outnumbered Democrats. He would also be able to thank statewide double digit unemployment and voter frustration with President Barack Obama.
