Scott Weise is Not Peyton Manning After All
After the Bears lost to the Colts in this past season's Super Bowl, Weise wanted to stick to the original bet that he made by actually changing his name to the star quarterback of the Colts. However, Macon County Judge Katherine McCarthy ruled that Weise can't legally change his name because of the confusion and invasion of privacy that could result from it.
Peyton Manning won the Super Bowl MVP for his performance in that Super Bowl. He threw for 247 yards with one touchdown and an interception in the contest. The Colts beat the Bears 29-17.
Weise is an employee for a local Staples retail store in Decatur, and makes substantially less money than the "real" Peyton Manning. Weise's attorney, Andy Bourey, had handled all the paperwork for the legal name change before the judge's ruling of not allowing it to go through.
This went over well with Weise's family, too. His parents in particular were very pleased with the judge's decision to not legally allow him to change his name to Peyton Manning. "Wiese is our family name, and we're proud of it," Debbie Wiese told the Decatur newspaper. "I also didn't want to go through the rest of my life calling my son 'Peyton Manning."
