Edinburgh Castle - Situated in the heart of Edinburgh this is one castle not to be missed while touring Scotland. This is one of the most popular tourist locations as it is in Scotland's capital city. The castle sits on a fantastic display of volcanic rock, that in the past was a defense mechanism against various battles which occurred from the time the castle was built. Stirling Castle

There is a lot to see within this castle, it may take a tourist two hours, or more to view all of the castles historical rooms. Stirling castle was a favorite place for royalty to stay during the 14th and 15th century. You will see the Regimental Museum of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders detailing the history of the regiment from 1794. The huge Great Hall was built in the middle ages and has been restored to it's former medieval look. The castle is well known for having some of the greatest architecture in Scotland.

Inverness Castle

Inverness Castle was built in 1835 and overlooks the River Ness. Sightings of the ghost of King Duncan have said to have been seen walking by the river side, The castle is surrounded by many floral displays on the lead up to the statue of Flora Macdonald within the castle grounds. The castle is open daily during the tourist period. There are various enactments taking place where visitor's can witness what life was like in the past.

Airth Castle

This castle is situated near Stirling in Scotland. It was once owned by Robert the Bruce and his family, and was built in the 14th century. It also has a surrounding church and graveyard from the 12th century. The castle overlooks the River Forth, and many scenic views can be seen in the surrounding areas. The castle is favored for weddings, banquets, conferences and many other events. It can hold up to eight hundred guests.

Balmoral castle is in Aberdeenshire, and was purchased by Queen Victoria in 1848. The estate has over 50,000 acres of hills and ancient woodlands to explore. Nowadays it is owned by the British Royal family who have preserved the local wildlife and scenic surrounding views from the castle. Balmoral castle has been described as a paradise in the Highlands, and when you visit you will see why this is the case.
