With over 122 million votes the new "American Idol" was named last night. The two yougest competitors on the show made it all the way to the finale, despite naysayers who said they couldn't do it. They are both country, and both there- and you said it couldn't be done. Take that!
But first there were performances from Kirk Franklin, Lady Gaga, Marc Anthony, Caset Abrams, Beyonce Knowles, Tony Bennett and Haley Reinhart, and Lil Jon and TLC. They mixed the top 13 in with the performers, so the Idol castaways returned for their final chance in the spotlight (at least on the Idol stage).
I enjoyed the performance from Tim McGraw and Scotty McCreery who sang "Live Like You Were Dying." Say all you want, but I see Scotty as someone who could one day have George Strait statue. He sings like McGraw or Alan Jackson, and fans love him like he's Strait. He has a big career ahead of him. And he doesn't have to try to sound like someone else to win.
Lauren and Scotty's favorite teachers were given their pick of Ford Focuses, as did the top 2 finalists. Way to go Idol it's really nice that they did that. I have always thought that the top 3 deserve their own special reward for making it further than the other contestants.
Lady Gaga sang "On The Edge of Glory" in her underwear, no less. She's beginning to get predicatable (sing in underwear, weird hat- check) and her performance was strange as it ever was. But I liked the song and it was maybe one of her better performances- less diva, less dance, way better in that aspect.
Lauren Alaina also sang "Before He Cheats" with Carrie Underwood and it made for a great performance as well. I know my momma had to love that part! As would most anyone who is a country music fan (and not jealous).
Bono and The Edge sang "Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark" and it was the best performance of the night. And then Steven Tyler came on and topped it all with his stirring performance of "Dream On," sang while playing the piano. Proving once again, that he is the man.
And the next "American Idol" is---- Scotty McCreery! That's right country haters, Scotty won it all! Props to Lauren she did a really good job! Congratulations go out to Scotty and his legion of fans!
