Scotty McCreery's Embarrassing Lip-Sync Flub at Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

"American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery really flubbed his opening line and millions at and/or watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade saw his lip-sync miscue. Now millions more will see it as a viral "fail" video on YouTube.

No, McCreery's problem wasn't that he was lip-syncing -- well, it wasn't and it was. It wasn't because all the major performers at the parade lip-sync their songs. But it was a problem for the teen because he obviously missed his cue, his hit country song "The Trouble With Girls" blasting along the New York City streets (and on television screens throughout the nation) as he very visibly joined his song after a few of the words had already split the air.

And no doubt noticed by a good portion of the 50 million people estimated to have been watching the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.

Perhaps he was caught up in the moment, the sheer immensity of the pageantry that is the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Perhaps it was the effect of New York City on a young country boy (although that might have worn off by the end of "American Idol" -- he was in Los Angeles, after all -- or the "American Idol Live Tour"). Perhaps it was the earmuffs protecting him from the cold that caused him to miss his cue. Or perhaps it was the universe evening up the cosmic balance after McCreery was announced as "bigger than life."

Regardless of the reason for the lip-sync flub, the noticeable flub probably did little to dampen McCreery's reasons for giving thanks on this Thanksgiving Day. His debut album, Clear As Day , vaulted back to the top of the Billboard Country Albums chart this week and sold enough copies to clear the 500,000 mark, which earns it a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The "American Idol" Season 10 winner (a title he won just six months ago ) set the Soundscan Era (since 1991) record for being the youngest artist to see his first album debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

"The Trouble With Girls" is his second hit single from Clear As Day.

Although somewhat embarassing, these things will and do happen. Scotty McCreery can also be grateful his Thanksgiving fail wasn't worse -- like falling off the float or Kanye West stepping in to lip-sync his lines (or tell him Cee Lo Green -- who also performed at the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade -- was better at it). Missing his miming cue will be a mistake that will fade with time -- time that he will undoubtedly spend as a successful country music singer.
