Scrapbook Journaling - Finding the Right Write Words
Using Words to Make Your Scrapbook Pages a Lasting Memory
So you have your scrapbook page all laid out and those pictures of your babies are just the most precious photos ever taken; you need to add the journaling or it would be like going out without brushing your hair ... you just aren't done.
The first journaling to consider is a fabulous title. Think of the mood and style that your page is conveying. You can have a play on words title; or a nostalgic one; just try to keep the style of your title in the same style as the page.
Next, cover the basics on of your picture:
Who is in the picture? Name names, add relationships, if necessary. Such as this is little Jimmy with Mrs. Cooper our next door neighbor on Grant Ave.
What is happening? Tell what is happening in the picture; or if appropriate what happened immediately before the picture was taken or just after the picture was taken.
When was the picture taken? Date the picture. With older pictures; try to narrow it down as much as possible; even if that means that you can only say: Uncle Bob in the early 1920s.
Where was the picture taken? Don't forget to include the city and state or even country, if appropriate. Also you might include more details, such as: Little Joey in the sandbox in our backyard on Maple Street.
How did this picture become scrapbook worthy? Tell why you feel this moment was worthy of picture. In other words, why is it important to you. Share your feelings of the picture, the viewer will be drawn in when you share your thoughts and feelings.
Remember details that are duh! obvious now, will be blurry or even lost in the future if you do not write them down.
Going along with the journaling is to consider which font you want to use; if you are not hand journaling. While most consider hand journaling to be the epitome of scrapbook writing; if your handwriting resembles an epileptic chicken having a seizure while running through spilled ink; consider computer journaling.
There are literally 1000s of free fronts available on the internet. Many are very specific. Have a page showing your little one catching a fish? There is a font that has all the letters made from bent and twisted fishing rods.
Also consider using various colors of ink in your journaling; it can add an extra pop to your page.
You could also you die cut letters, sticker letters or rubber stamped letters to add words to your page.
As with all art, let your mind run free and remember that serendipity is always a HAPPY accident. There is no right or wrong, you can do it anyway that you please. Have fun and save a memory.
