Scrapbook Storage Solutions

Rachel Soden
If you have ever attempted to scrapbook, you know that it takes time, space and quiet to concentrate. Many serious scrapbookers have designated their own workspace to store their supplies and work on their projects away from the noise of family.

There are many types of scrapbooking storage supplies you can purchase. There are modular desks, paper storage racks, fancy scrapbooking cases and totes. However, if you would rather spend less on storage supplies and more on the scrapbook supplies here are a few tips.

Your workspace doesn't have to be a pretty and expensive desk from a furniture store. If you have a person who is handy with tools, go to your nearest home improvement store and have them purchase some laminate boards and screws and have them put together a very basic desk; two large boards side by side for the tabletop and four boards for legs with small shelves in between. While you are at the home improvement store consider purchasing more shelving for the walls and a large piece of white erase board. These will help you store your supplies, keep your ideas handy, and jot down supply lists for your next trip to the store.

Consider using tubs from Wal-Mart or Target to store larger items in. You could also purchase mason jars to store embellishments. The benefit to these are they are see through so you won't have to search for what you want. Purchase a long dowel to hang under the shelf to store your ribbons on. For added space, screw the lids to the mason jars underneath one of the shelves. Then they can hang from the bottom of the shelf leaving you with more space to store supplies.

If you have a lot of small embellishments such as eyelets, brads, album posts, circle rings, flowers, etc, then you may consider shopping in the tool aisle for a compartment box. They are generally used in the garage to store nails and screws. However, the tiny drawers are ideal for storage of small items.

Another option would be to purchase a peg board to hang scissors, tapes, trimmers, and other miscellaneous tools on. You could also use some sandwich baggies to hang your embellishments in.

Paper storage is probably a large concern as you don't want it to become creased, bent or ripped. Upright paper storage or boxes that lay flat will help. You may want to consider purchasing two if you use plain cardstock and patterned paper to keep them separate.

Other miscellaneous storage ideas would be a pencil holder to hold your markers, a magazine file for your scrapbooking magazines, a paper tray to hold your photo paper and transparencies.

If you are short on space or go to a lot of crops, consider investing in a rolling tote that you can store your supplies in.
