Sometimes children say some of the funniest things. My 3 year old son for example, came running out of my sisters room with her hot on his tail. He had one of her bra's on properly and another on his head. He came screaming out of the room and shouted at me as he passed. " Look at all my boobs" He ran out of the room followed by my sister. Then came running back through and told me he had boobs on his head and boobs on his boobs." Sadly at the time my camera was out of reach. That would have been a terribly funny photo. My tall 3 year old running from his auntie wearing her bras.
However just because I was unable to take pictures doesn't mean I cannot preserve the memory by scrapbooking it. First I picked a background. For this i picked blue with many different shades of blue circles. I then wrote out in pretty script everything he had said. I framed that several times making it the focus of my page. I then used embellishments in the form of a bra and panty graphic as well as small pictures of my sister and son.
Other times that my son has said something funny have worked for this. One morning when he was a year and a half i asked him what he wanted to eat for breakfast. He answered me by chanting "eat the buddy, eat the buddy" Buddy was our small talking parrot. Funny moments like that are impossible to photograph but wonderful things that we want to remember. I started by typing out the saying in a pretty font. Then mounting it on 3 different papers as backgrounds. I picked a green background and mounted the framed quote. I embellished again with pictures of my son and our bird.
Other examples of funny things my son has said are as follows. One time when we were going dip net fishing. A type of fishing that involves a large net and you drag it through a river to catch fish. As soon as we parked, my son chimed in. "were here get the poles" While it might not be terribly funny, it was a really cute moment. One that was made into a scrapbook fishing page. Later that night as we were getting around the campfire to discuss dinner, he calmly announced to everyone that he was having Pizza-Fish for dinner.
Likewise a good story can make a picture seem that much more. Writing about what happened in your photo or journaling as its often called. Can help make the picture a real memory. Not only will you and anyone else reading, remember and see what the subject looked like. But there will also be a story to explain what happened in the picture. You can make these as funny, as long or as short as you want. Sometimes like say when a parent passes on you might want to scrap a page with a photo of them and a bit about their life. It will help you remember those minor details about that person as time passes. One thing i always want to remember abut my grandmother who passed is that her favorite earrings were teal feather birds. I have a picture with my grandmother wearing her earrings, and its one of those small things that I want to remember about her. Just a photograph wouldn't tell the same story.
Another good thing to use is quotes and sayings. I have several websites full of quotes on every subject bookmarked. I also have books full of quotes. Every picture could use a good quote to add to it. For instance i just had one mailed out to me saying. " Boy, a noun meaning a thing with dirt on it." Which fits perfectly with my 2 sons. My 3 year old cant go 20 minutes after a bath clean. He will be into and full of something quickly. So the quote is a great one for me. I'm saving it for the summer when he gets into the mud. By that time my younger son will be of an age to get muddy as well. I feel that that quotation will be perfect for my sons. You can always find a famous quote to go with whatever situation. In stores you can buy quotations in the form of vellum or stickers. Online you can find decorated sayings that have a transparent background and will go on your digital pages with ease.
Quotations, stories and words can be a vital part of your scrapbooking experience. They can be the focal point of your page, or the embellishment that draws attention and gives a story. Either way they are something you don't want to forget.
