ScrapNFun: Easy Embellishments for Your Scrapbook Pages 8/28/09
Inexpensive Embellishments to Spice Up Your Scrapbooking Pages
Small paper flags-
Mini flag picks, great for your Fourth of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day photos, and of course the cupcakes for the kids.
Coin Envelopes:
You usually get around 250 of these in a box, enough to last you years, use as pockets for your journaling, memorabilia, and photos. At 2x3 inches they are the perfect size for your 12x12 scrapbook pages.
Maps and Brochures:
When you go on vacation or to your State Fair, you usually get a map or brochure to help you with your visit, use these as a background for your pages. You can cut them out and down to fit your page. Brochures of camping grounds, wineries, fall train rides, zoos, caverns, musuems, and trails are just some examples. So when you go on your next trip make sure to pick up brochures if they have them. Make great fillers for your blank spaces on your pages also.
Save your gift wrap & cardboard:
During Christmas and birthdays save some of your prettier gift wrap, doesn't have to be a big section around a 5 inch square. Take a piece of cardboard and cut a square, wrap it with the gift wrap, glue to your page with pop up dots, and criss cross two strips of ribbon. Now you have a gift embellishment for your birthday, and christmas photos and pages.
Save Christmas cards, and Birthday cards:
Cut out the picture if you can with a large tag punch, or around the image as close as you can with scissors. You can use them as tags or recycle them and use them for a accent for your Christmas presents this year.
Bottle Caps:
Save beer bottle caps. Glue a circular photo to them, on the top, or an alphabet sticker and glue to your page with a pop up dot, I find that these are good in gluing heavier items to your pages.
Shrink, Scan and Print:
If you have been published, have a winning lottery scratch off or game ticket, your first paycheck, an award you have won at work or in sports, scan it, reduce it, and print it for your pages. I have even printed my content page on AC with my hits, and made a page with me typing on my laptop.
Another idea is if you love to read, as many of us do, find covers of the books you have read this year online. Save them to your computer and print them up. It's a nice way to look back a few years from now and see what you read that year.
Fabric:
Use scraps of fabric to make small squares for your pages, or larger pieces for photo mats.
Ticket Stubs:
Once a year take all your movie tickets, and concert ticket stubs and make a scrapbook page. Add photos if you have them.
Make arrows:
Hand draw using a ruler, or use a stencil or template off the internet. Cut in numerous sizes and colors and store them in a ziploc or craft bag. Great to journal on, point to a title or photo you want to bring attention to.
Also by storing them, you can take them with you to crops.
Next week I will be discussing tips for Back to School pages, see you then.
Have fun ScrapN
