Screaming Tiki Con organizer Peter Smith's been to a lot of conventions in his time, and when it came to putting this one together, the

Youngstown artist aimed for two goals: Stuff for kids, and no corner of pop culture left unexplored.

"When you get to be in your thirties, and you've been a fan of these mediums forever, it is something you want to share with your kids," Mr. Smith said. "I really wanted to make a convention that everybody could enjoy. It was really about making sure there was something there for everyone, from the video game tournament to celebrities to comic book artists. A lot of the genres end up crossing over and that's something else I think is overlooked sometimes." That's why you'll see a guest list ranging from Adam West and the Batmobile to Peter "Chewbacca" Mayhew and Jeremy "Boba Fett" Bulloch to original Batgirl Yvonne Craig and a slew of artists from across the spectrum.

Seriously - just check out the whole guest list here. It's insane.

It's getting attention, too: "A lot of the passes that are selling right now are selling from out-of-state," Mr. Smith said. "I just sold two passes ... to (someone from)

San Antonio. They're coming from Boston, they're coming from California, Indiana. I'm actually kind of flattered and overwhelmed at the same time."

He's hearing an awful lot of excitement, especially considering this is the inaugural Screaming Tiki Con.

"We already have people asking for another one," he said. "It could be a total giant mess, and they're already asking for another one." (And if this one goes well, look toward next June, hint, hint.)

There will be panel discussions on the old Batman TV show, Superman movies and television, Star Wars; 60-65 dealers including Mattel's Hot Wheels division and some impressive 1980s toy sellers; kids' lunches with pirates and stormtroopers and superheroes.

"It wasn't even putting together a comic book convention so much as someplace that people could come and spend the weekend and have a blast," Mr. Smith said.

The Screaming Tiki Con is Oct. 17-19 at the Eastwood Expo Center in Niles, Ohio.

Ingenuityfest called artistic success despite flat attendance, dispute with Screaming Tiki Cleveland Super-Con

Screaming Tiki organizer Peter Smith said that Levin gave him an inaccurate picture of Ingenuityfest's expected attendance and didn't fulfill a joint advertising agreement. Smith estimated Ingenuityfest's attendance last weekend at closer to 10,000.

The two events arranged that Screaming Tiki passes would be honored at Ingenuity, but there were glitches. Smith said he refunded nearly 100 Screaming Tiki admissions to people who were refused admittance into the arts festival.

About 1,000 fans attended Screaming Tiki (numbers were more like 300-400)-- fewer than both events expected -- and it went about $40,000 into the red, Smith said.
