Screenwriter's Workshop Experience in Sarasota, Florida

A couple of years ago, I attended a workshop for screen scriptwriters and stage scriptwriters. I had started a couple of scripts at that time but I have yet to finish them 3 years later. The workshop I had taken was offered at The Players Studios located in Sarasota Florida and was taught by Jeffery Kin. Kin has written several stage plays himself and is very knowledgeable on how to write scripts.

I do have to say that I learned a great deal about script writing for both stage and screen and highly recommend attending a workshop to learn new ways on how to develop your script. For me it was a very positive experience and my fellow students always supported each-other. We would bounce ideas off of each other and have constructive criticism on the script that we were working on during the 10 week course. Every week we would learn something new. For example, the first week we would talk about how to brainstorm and do a basic outline of the script. Then we would write out some info on a couple of the main characters which we would save, so we could add future characters too and refer too. Then it would just build from there. It was challenging.

I have always enjoyed going to different workshops because there is always something you can get from it. Even if you may not agree with something, it's a good thing to keep in mind and look back on in the future. I can't tell you how many times I have disagreed with someone on something and then a few weeks later, I realize how helpful that tip actually was. I have also found the opposite to be true but different things work for different people. It's just a matter of how your brain works.

One script that I am still in the process of writing is basically my own personal life story. Of course I am changing names and a few situations around somewhat but basically it will almost be like an autobiography. I have yet to think of a name for it. What I want people to get away from it when they are done watching the film is that they aren't alone no matter how alone they may feel. Also, I want people to walk away knowing that they might be helping someone and not even realizing it.
