Scripture Chain - Courage in the Old Testament

Old Testament Courage Scripture Chain

Jade Harris
Here's a Courage Scripture Chain for the Old Testament. Again, to make the chain, next to the first passage I write the reference to the next scripture so I can go from scripture to scripture quite easily when studying a topic. I put my little lion sticker in the margin and highlight the verses in yellow. Later at a glance I can pick out scriptures on a particular topic with ease. When I see the lion I remember to be courageous.

I discovered I have so many favorites from the Old Testament I thought I'd give them a separate section. And even in doing that this is just a beginning starting with these fear not scriptures there are so many passages that could be added, so many examples of people showing courage... Daniel and the Lion's Den (of course that needs a lion sticker) along with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego in the fiery furnace, Abraham and Isaac - the courage of the father and the son, the story of Esther and her people, Ruth and so many others... All inspiring, all teaching and showing us courage.

Old Testament Scriptures on Courage

Passages are from the King James Version of the Bible.

Deuteronomy 31:6 ~ Moses, Joshua, Children of Israel

6 "Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee." (see also verses 7, 8 and 23)

1 Kings 17:13-14 ~ Elijah and the Widow

13 "And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth." (see also verses 9-12 and 15-16)

2 Kings 6:16-17 ~ Elisha -- We too have unseen help.

16 "And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha." (see also verses 14-20)

2 Chronicles 20:15 ~ Judah -- The battle is God's. The Lord is with us.

15 "And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's." (see also verses 16-19)

Isaiah 43:1-3 ~ Jacob, Israel

1 "But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

3 For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour..."

Jeremiah 1:8 ~ Jeremiah -- We receive the help we need.

8 "Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord." (see also verses 6-10)

For a full circle, remember to link the end of your chain to the beginning scripture. Happy chain-ing!

Great verses! I also like Exodus 14:13, "And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day:"

Jade, this is most excellent. Let me welcome you to AC. I like the idea you have here. It is during the holidays that we become dis-couraged. That is, many people can become lonely, isolated & be forgotten about during the holidays. It is courage - (dis)tanced from a person, but your article has en- (attached) courage to me & others I'm sure. God bless you & keep writing such godly articles. The Lord may be using you to draw others to Himself (John 6:44), one never knows. Take care & "Thumbs Up' on this one friend. : - )
