For starters, we'll look at Isaiah 41:10, which says, " Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand." It is very comforting to know that Jehovah God is right there, even in times when you feel deeply afraid. Millions around the world have pondered over this Scripture, and it has brought them out of the choke hold of fear. They felt released and felt that what was scaring them no longer had any power over them. This Scripture can also do the same for you. Just meditate on it and see.
Then, there is another fabulous verse in the same chapter, at verse 13, which proclaims, "For I hold you by your right hand-I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, 'Don't be afraid. I am here to help you." This one, especially, has proven to be quite helpful to many when tragedy strikes, as it comforts them from the fear of uncertainties that lay ahead. For instance, in the October 1, 2008 issue of The Watchtower, a Bible-based magazine that is published by Jehovah's Witnesses, one woman meditated on this Scripture, as it was what got her through the tragedy of losing her only son, her husband, and her father in a relatively short span of time. She also reinforced her belief in that Scripture by constantly praying and putting her trust in Jehovah God. Likewise, this Scripture can have the same effects on you if you put it deep down in your heart.
Finally, the last set of Scriptures, found at Proverbs 3:5-8, are ones that should definitely be meditated upon during times of fear and uncertainty. I know that when I used to dread things that lay ahead, or when I used to be terrified of the unknown, I would just say these Scriptures to myself. After thinking on them for some time, I'd then apply them by praying to God and trusting that he would completely take care of me. These Scriptures say the following:
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do,and he will show you which path to take.
7 Don't be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
8 Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones.
So, once you stop stressing out about things trying to analyze everything down to the core and put your full trust in God, you'll feel a healing come over you just as these Scriptures promise. It is then that your mind is freed giving you the strength and will to focus on other things.
The Bible has many more Scriptures in regards to coping with fear. However, these are just a few to get you started in the right direction. It may do you some good to get out your own copy of the Bible and do some more research. You may be surprised in how much comfort you experience, as you read the pages of God's Word. The Bible is a great tool for helping to release the choke hold of fear that has so many strangled.
