Spoiler alert! I have gathered the best of the online fan speculations and some clues from the writers themselves as well as other insiders.
Ken Jenkin's character Dr. Bob Kelso is rumored to be leaving some time during this last season. The reason for his departure hasn't been leaked just yet however my guess it that it will happen sooner than later as Dr. Kelso's face is conspicuously missing from NBC's Scrubs homepage at http://www.nbc.com/Scrubs . The picture of the characters in white originally included Ken Jenkins, which leads me to believe he will be ousted in one of the earlier episodes. There must be a good reason for his departure. I can't imagine him leaving early on due to a motive as predictable as retirement. TV Guide's Michael Ausiello confirms Ken's character does not die.
According to Variety, Scrubs producer Bill Lawrence kept good on his promise to allow Aloma Wright, formerly Nurse Laverne Roberts (died in season 6) to return as Laverne's twin sister Shirley (Heh, get it? Laverne and Shirley) a, "single, alcoholic woman who shuns religion," a complete 180 compared to God-fearing Roberts.
Despite this disclosure, most fans believe Aloma will return as a completely unrelated character. If this is so, it will be interesting to see how this new character relates to the other hospital members. Will anyone take notice of the similarities? Fans speculate that J.D. (played by Zach Braff) will be the only one to notice the new character's likeness to Nurse Roberts. This entire concept has high cheese potential where as the news leaked to Variety has high comedic potential.
Will they or won't they? Rumors are wildly flying around the Internet about the pending marriage between Elliot and Keith (Sarah Chalke and Travis Schuldt). Last year's season finale ended with Elliot and J.D. lying in an on call room bed about to kiss. Could their on again off again feelings come back into play or will Elliot snap out of it right before the kiss and realize she was meant (or doomed) to be with Keith? This is one secret that isn't out of the bag just yet.
Many fan websites are claiming hands down that there will be a Scrubs wedding and just as many fans have heard that Keith and Elliot are breaking up. It's confirmed that Ted Cavanagh's character Dan Dorian, J.D.'s ne'er do well brother and Elloit's one-time love interest will return for episode three. I can't imagine those two having a strong enough bond to take the plunge.
Let us not forget our favorite dysfunctional couple of the moment J.D. and Kim. With J.D.'s baby on board it is always possible for their names to be splattered across Elliot's old wedding invitations but the word is that these two are breaking up as well, much to the delight of all the Kim haters out there, myself included.
Neil Flynn's Janitor character will indeed get a name this season! Despite the janitor being a lesser character on the show (we still love him) there has been an enormous amount of buzz regarding what his name will be. It has been said that the writers are allowing Neil to choose the name himself though producer Bill Lawrence has some names set aside just in case. Neil mentioned on a recent Scrubs podcast that the name won't be revealed until the series finale.
Many Janitor fans, including myself, think Neil's character should be named after the actor since Neil did portray himself in season 3 episode 8 when J.D. saw actual footage of Neil in the movie The Fugitive, where Neil Flynn played a transit cop. It only makes sense that the Janitor's character be named Neil, if not Neil Flynn. This small detail will be a much anticipated event.
No major events have been reported about Turk and Carla, which isn't surprising as we have spent most of the entire series listening to them droning on about baby-making and whatnot (snore).
With that said, Judy Reyes, whose pelvis was injured just before the filming of My Musical (season 6 episode 6) finally had surgery to relieve her pain and was reported to be on crutches. Because of this injury her character might not be as active during the first part of season 7 and the focus might return to Turk and J.D.'s relationship.
Besides from these major happenings, new interns are believed to turn up at Sacred Heart, one supposedly named Boon who will undoubtedly irritate Dr. Cox immensely leading to more of his infamous rants.
For those who didn't catch the play on words, boon is the palindrome of noob (Noobie as Dr. Cox affectionately called J.D. over the years when he wasn't calling him a girl's name) or, to take things even further, boon in computer-speak is someone who has been at it (usually gaming) forever yet has the knowledge and skills of a noob.
Again, this is pure speculation but hopefully the arrival of new interns will lead to a good amount of irritation for all.
New Scrubs episodes will return to NBC prime time starting October 25th at 9:30pm Eastern/8:30pm Central.
