Scrubs Season Finale Might Not Be Series Finale

Scrubs Might Not Be Over, but it Probably Should Be

Cassie Schmelz
Although everyone thought this was the final season of the popular TV series Scrubs, ABC actually hasn't made a decision on the final fate of the show. In spite of several of the shows stars moving on, there still is hope for Scrubs to continue. We may actually be seeing Scrubs sans Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke.

The hour long episode that aired on 05/06/09 was titled "My Finale" and was the comedy's season finale. The seemingly final Scrubs episode was a farewell to the main character, J.D., as he leaves Sacred Heart to move closer to his son.

The beginning of "My Finale" was slow and awkward, but the end was signature Scrubs, brilliant. As J.D. walks the Sacred Heart hallway for the final time, he is greeted by almost every important face from episodes past. He then watches his future near the exit in one of his popular daydreams. He sees himself marrying Elliot, having a child with her, and even sees their future son marrying Turk's daughter. The scene was both funny and tear inducing, which is what I've always loved about Scrubs.

It does seem that Zach Braff is done for good. He posted a bulletin via Myspace that read " Dear Friends,
Tonight is the Series Finale of Scrubs (as we know it...) Please feel free to read into the preceding parenthetical." Apparently, Donal Faison (Turk), John C McGinley (Dr. Cox), Neil Flynn (Janitor), Judy Reyes (Carla), and Sara Chalke (Elliot) all have other TV shows lined up on the horizon as well. As a huge Scrubs fanatic, I am very saddened to see it end, however, I think it has run its course. Scrubs has been ont he air for eight seasons and i have loved every minute of it, but it's best to end on a high note. Look at "Friends" that was a great sitcom for a long time. Then it went 10 seasons, which was at least two too many.

There comes a point where you've taken he characters as far as they can go, and that seems to be the case with Scrubs. Even the shows actors know it and are moving on. I have to wonder what ABC could even be considering, since there's no main original characters left.

I hate to say it, but hopefully this is a final farewell to Scrubs. The "final" episode was great and a perfect way to say goodbye. It's been a great ride, but all good things must come to an end.

  • The season eight finale of Scrubs might not be the series finale.
  • The season eight finale of Scrubs was very heartfelt and well done.
  • If Scrubs continues, it may have to do so without its star actors.
