Sea Island in San Antonio, Texas: Restaurant

Aaron Conor
In this day and age, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. However, if you're ever in San Antonio, Texas then you should try eating at Sea Island. Unless, of course, you despise seafood.

Location -

As mentioned above, Sea Island is located in San Antonio. If you have ever been to the North Star Mall, then you have been very close to this restaurant. Sea Island is basically right across the street from North Star Mall. There are two parking lots where you can leave your vehicle; both are right next to the restaurant itself. The parking lots are in relatively good condition, but they can become quite crowded as the day progresses.

Condition of the Restaurant -

Granted, this is an old restaurant that has been around since 1965; however, the restaurant owners keep it in good shape. It's clean, simple, and modestly sized. You can either sit at booths or tables (mostly tables). Sea Island also has a few television sets for your viewing pleasure, and restrooms are towards the back of the restaurant.

As for the design of the restaurant, it is sort of split into two sides. On one side, you have a relatively closed in area that has no windows. The other part of the restaurant has windows, and it is a bit brighter than the other side. You have choices. And if you want to beat the crowds, then try to arrive at the restaurant around eleven or so.

The Food -

It was mentioned above that if you don't like seafood, then you should avoid this restaurant. And you really should heed this advice because almost all of the food at Sea Island is seafood; however, there are a few items that are not. Like the Angus Burger. But rumor has it that food, other than seafood, actually tastes "fishy". So that Angus Burger may taste more like grilled salmon rather than beef. Other menu items that Sea Island serves are fried fish, stuffed shrimp, fish tacos, shrimp and oysters; etc. For those of you who want more information about the food, here's a link to Sea Island's official menu.

Cost -

The prices are fairly inexpensive for the food served at Sea Island. Of course, some food will cost more. A simple fish sandwich will only cost you a little over four dollars, but the seafood platter will run you up around thirteen dollars. Still, the price is really not that bad. And the food definitely beats Wendy's.

Eating out is a luxury that many people enjoy. And if you happen to be in San Antonio, then you should really try and eat something at Sea Island. Especially, if you plan on visiting the North Star Mall. You can't miss it.

Although Sea Island Shrimp House opened in 1965, the restaurant legacy spans many more decades. Sea Island's heritage actually dates back to 1912 with the family owned restaurant, Manhattan Cafe in downtown San Antonio.
