Seabrook Island/Charleston, South Carolina: Fischer's Sports Bar and Pub

A Guide to Casual Dining Around Kiawah and Seabrook Island

Karen McCann
Kiawah and Seabrook Island are two elite resort communities known for their gorgeous green golf courses and sandy South Carolina beaches. While the luscious creeping vines and large manor houses give the community a certain Southern charm, the area itself can be described as relatively remote. There is only one hotel on the entire island (including John's Island, the larger island nearby) and it happens to be one of the priciest hotels in the Charleston area. Places to eat are also few and far between, especially if you are not a member of the private beach or pool clubs that dot the community and are often "property owners only." Many of the remaining choices are, as you might expect, more expensive restaurants where beach attire would be anything but appropriate.

This is where Fischer's Sports Pub and Grill comes in to play. Located near the marina on Andell Bluff Boulevard in a small shopping area on Seabrook Island, South Carolina, Fisher's Pub is one of the best casual dining options that the area has to offer. The menu is filled with classic pub fare like cheese fries, nachos, mozzarella cheese sticks, burgers and pulled pork sandwiches, and all prices are reasonable - our family of 5 ate for well under $100, and our order included shared appetizers, beers, and two orders of crab buckets.

Which brings me to the main reason why Fischer's Grill gets an A+ in my book: The crab legs. Every Tuesday evening, Fischer's offers buckets full of crab legs for just $18. This pound and a half pile of crab legs are beyond delicious, especially when soaked in butter and the legs make for a fun and entertaining family dinner as you struggle to crack the legs and suck out the crab meat. My 6 year old nephew was beaming with pride as he went from being a crab leg cracking beginner to a full blown expert before he had even finished his first bucket of crab legs.

The pub is open seven days a week, and with a closing time of 2 am on Saturday and Sunday, is a great place to down a few cold ones. The kitchen officially closes at 9 pm but if you're hoping to get in on the crab leg special be sure to get in early: the deal stops as soon as the buckets run out and that can happen pretty early! The last time we stopped in it was barely 6 pm, and the people who arrived right after us claimed the last bucket!
