Now a new young artist has stepped onto the scene. His name is Sean Kingston. Sean, a 17 year old, born in Jamaica and now residing in Miami, has a style all of his own. This young man "performs" rap lyrics set to hip-hop, dancehall and reggae beats. But there is a refreshing twist-he mixes in a little bit of doo-wop and the lyrics are CLEAN! Doo-wop mixed with rap? Yes.
It creates a sound that is unique and refreshing and it still has the rhythm to keep us dancing. This young artist's song and video "Beautiful Girls" can be seen daily on the popular video shows. He is also heard on the radio stations and it at the top of the charts. His music has a Sean Paul meets Sam Cook kind of feel. You got to love when a youngster pays homage to those who indeed paved the way for them. Did I mention how adorable he is?
The really cool thing about this young artist is he managed to create a style that is different, something that seems hard for most new artists to do. Many of the tracks, lyrics, beats, and styles of hip-hop and rap artists seem to be carbon copied. Sean proves with a little bit of creativity, you can produce a new sound that people will love.
He also proves that artists can produce hot songs without having to use profanity and degradation of women. Despite what many say, it can be done. And you can still make money. Another argument many artists use is that they only rap about the world from which they come. Sean had to overcome obstacles himself in his childhood. He laments about it in his song "Dry Your Eyes"; however, he does it without using the N word or degrading women.
The young Mr. Kingston is setting a trend that hopefully more young people in the music industry will follow. He sets a good example for young people showing them that you can still have a good time and enjoy the music you love without all the detrimental nonsense. Mr. Kingston, we applaud you and keep up the good work young man!
