Search Engine "Reindexing" Has Killed My Limited AC Success

Snidely Whiplash
For the disclaimer, I am not an AC success...never have been and never will be. But still it's frustrating to see even cursory success disappear to almost complete irrelevance and nothingness. I do not pretend to understand all this "reindexing" and algorithms in any sense other than an abstract one. But I damn sure understand declining, and drastically so, page views. Let's examine my of late page view success.

As late as mid-February I was getting about 600 page views per day everyday. Of course on days when I published, which were most days, I got more views, a few less on days when I did not publish an article. But beginning on February 19 I saw an obvious drop that declined until I reached a low of 153 page views

My viewership totals climbed back a bit in the second week of March but have only crossed the 600 pv's on March 18. Since then it's been a steady decline to 161 page views for yesterday, April 2. Oh, and as of this morning I see I have lost a "fan." I fell from 176 to 175 "fans." I've never seen that before and didn't know one could be "un-favored," but if one can find a way to redefine a lack of AC success, trust me, I'll find a way. Of course I am not under any pretenses of what AC is. Any AC success on my part is purely persistence. This month is my fourth anniversary at AC so I'm nothing if not persistent...kinda like an infection that antibiotics just won't kill!

This is really frustrating in that my extensive catalog of 1200+ articles was my real pv gathering storm, yet now even my older catalog offerings have dropped over, some rather drastically. I believe it is valid to wonder why my old work, some gun reviews and some decent historical pieces, preformed near 1000 page views per month every month since I published them yet now they have generally dropped to about half that number on a continuing monthly basis, so what's up?

I am the first to acknowledge three things about me, my work and AC: I do not adhere to the SEO friendly stuff at all; I am not an especially good writer in any way and have no illusions that I ever was or will be and of course my topics of choice - history and political and social op/eds will never garner the page views of the successful and competent AC Sources. That being said, still, it is damned frustrating.

Yeah, I'm still happy I can share my thoughts with the world and that said thoughts will forever be in the ether of mankind's collective works and knowledge. But I was kind of hoping more than a dozen or so other folks would read my thoughts. And this is not a "bash AC" lament...I have never been one to smash a gift horse in the mouth, but my observations are backed up by untold numbers of posts, comments and topics in the AC Forums, so this isn't my imagination, or any sudden awakening of the world that "that Whiplash idiot is, well an idiot!"

And for the record I have already posted a thought on the Forums, so I know that a problem with AC is not to be written about in some "AC is terrible" manner and that is not what I am doing, but merely noting the situation and making a public comment on same. In fact this does not seem to be the fault of AC at all, but of this "reindexing" and algorithms stuff.

Lastly, let me encourage my fellow Sources...don't give up folks. Nothing Man does is perfect and this won't be either. Keep writing; keep working at it; keep publishing. Nothing beats a trial but a failure and by comparison to me, most of you fine cats are successes of monumental proportions so keep at it. See ya next time...if anyone bothers to read this, that is...LOL! Keep the faith Brothers and Sisters. Remember, meritorious is meritorious, so even if no one sees it, it's still right and proper, thus worthy on it's face.

If you don't give a flying frick about pageviews, the new algorithms won't bother you at all. Try it. You'll like it. Above all, keep writing, because I'm reading your stuff, Whippy, pageviews or not.

I have been experimenting with no SEO experience myself, during march I have had my three best page view days ever. 3800, 5500 and 5600- I will keep experimenting and see what happens. I hope your page views get better

There it is, my friend. The new algorithm has killed all our views. My pvs have dropped to one-third or one-fourth what they once were. I used to chase records. Now I'm lucky if I'm chasing enough pvs to make it worth writing (this is my livelihood, ya know). But even with the new algorithm, I'm still pushing a little over 7K per day, mostly due to the fact that I have over 4000 articles (some of which are tabloid crap that keeps on paying, evergreen as it were). My new articles are barely clicking in the dozens of views (and they're mostly political, so I feel your pain, my friend). But I'll figure it out sooner or later -- as will many of us. So you are absolutely correct. Keep the faith. Keep writing. Keep working at it.

    On this we are unanimous!
