Search-Pirate.com - New People Search Site Launched

Arrr! Have Fun and Use a Pirate to Find People on the Net

JA Huber
Ahoy, me hearties! Find a lost pirate, old flame or college roommate through the new people search Web site called Search-Pirate.com.

The pirate-themed site, complete with pirate speak and graphics, launched on January 3, 2007 and is the creation of Mark Kellogg and Frank Kissel, Web site developers who wanted to make searching for people on the Internet fun. "Until now, locating someone on the Web was boring. What could be more fun than searching with a pirate?" Kissel told me. That pirate is Cap'n Look.

When asked about the origins of the theme, Kissel said, you can "never have enough pirate talk." He pointed out, "there is Talk Like a Pirate Day," and added, the Search-Pirate.com team of five all have a "funny sense of humor."

Search-Pirate.com evolved out of creating Web sites for corporate clients needing search tools. According to Kissel, the term "search pirate" kept coming up but the corporate clients weren't buying it. This gave him and Kellogg the idea to "do something fun" and develop the site independent of their clients.

The site is a gateway to other people search sites, such as PeopleFinders.com and VoomPeople.com. All sites have been pre-screened for quality and reliability. Search-Pirate.com visitors can search for free, but need to purchase in-depth results. Kissel said, "There are a lot of sites out there and Search-Pirate.com wants to provide customers with an entertaining gateway to some of the Net's premiere and trusted people search sites."

Missing from the site are annoying ads. It accepts paid placements, "but will only accept advertisers once they have been carefully screened."

Visitation to the site has been good and the Search-Pirate team is pleased with the interest.

Site visitors can register for a newsletter and "should expect to receive no SPAM or promotional e-mails from third parties. Cap'n Look despises SPAM!" said Kissel. Subscribers can expect newsletters filled with "colorful tales of his [Cap'n Look] many travels" and special promotions.

As Search-Pirate.com moves forward, Cap'n Look et al would like to see the site develop "into a community experience" assisting "people in the location of lost loved ones and others completely free of charge." Kissel added, "Perhaps Cap'n Look will have Search-Pirate.com assist users in locating other things lost, not just people."

Cap'n Look launched his blog this week. Keep up with his salty adventures at www.search-pirate.com/blog.

Currently, Search-Pirate.com searches for people within the United States. Arrr!

Hi Jim. I haven't found any free sites, they all seem to tease the user by dangling a bit of information then ask for money.

I'll have to check it out. I have some old friends I'd love to find. Thanks for the informative information!

There were, once, people-search sites that were FREE! Are any of these still around? I have found even routine searches through white pages lead to pay sites!
