Seaside Heights Anxiously Awaiting Stars of the Jersey Shore

Valerie Ferrari
MTV has announced that the "Jersey Shore" stars will be returning to Seaside Heights as soon as filming wraps in Miami Beach. From current reports, the cast of the popular reality show has not gotten quite the welcome they anticipated in Miami Beach.

According to the NY Post, guidos, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, "Pauly D" DelVecchio, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Vinny Guadagnino and their guidette counterparts, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Jenni "J-WoWW " Farley and Sammi Giancola, have encountered a bit of xenophobia, or more likely, their reputations preceded them. The hotspots of Miami Beach do not want the kind of publicity that the Beachcomber in Seaside Heights reveled in.

"No one wants them to tape here," a source told the Post. "They went to the W Hotel the other night and got rejected. They were also refused by the Delano, Shore Club and the Mondrian."

Back in Jersey, Michael Carbone owner of the Beachcomber can't wait for the return of the "Jersey Shore" cast. "Seaside Heights is more about the people who come ... to vacation," he said, in a video that you can watch here. The incident where Snooki got punched out in his establishment may have enraged many people, but for Michael Carbone, that translated into quite a bonanza. He now has the chair that the poofy guidette sat in labeled "Snooki's chair." In honor of the incident and the wild Snookster, he sells a drink named "Snooki Punch," a concoction that consists of rum, melon liquor, pineapple juice and cream. But you don't have to go to Seaside Heights to get a punch. On the Urban Dictionary, there is the "Snookie Punch" and you can even buy merchandise with the recipe on it and get as snookered as you like.

Other business owners are also busy cashing in on the attraction to the area created by the show. Ryan's Boulevard Deli & Grill created "The Situation," a sandwich that is full of bologna! Bill White, owner of the White Pearl Hotel, is happy to thank the show for a "20 to 30 percent increase in booking." and "I would have to attribute that to the show."

Not everyone, as we know, is a fan of the wild party image the "Jersey Shore: show projects. The same groups that objected to the negative portrayals of Italian-American stereotypes in "The Sopranos," the mob show set in North Jersey, have all along voiced their displeasure with the guidos and guidettes.

In the meantime, other versions of the show are rumored to be in the works, including an Asian-American version, a Russian-American show and the very latest: Persian-American.

Are they really any worse than the VH-1 Flava Flav, Charm School and Rock of Love shows? Probably not and In the meantime, VH-1 is evolving and planning more upscale reality shows that will feature people with discriminating tastes in fashion and soulmates. To that end, they have enlisted Rozonda Thomas, aka "Chili" of the hip-hop group, TLC.

Guidos and Guidettes, priceless. Yawn to the show, though. I played that card when I was their age only I did it with the command of the English language, what a difference intelligence makes!!
