Season 2 of Glee Debuts with a Killer Performance from Charice

Season 2 of Glee started off with a bang last night on FOX with the airing of "Audition." A few new characters were introduced to viewers in the form of Dot Jones as Coach Shannon Beiste, Charice as student and Glee club hopeful Sunshine Corazon and Chord Overstreet as Sam Evans.

The night started with an interesting recap featuring a blogger getting the scoop about the end of Season 1 from the characters. Finn and Rachel are shown as a couple, Kurt is shown being harassed and Will's sad rapping skills are taken to task to let new viewers catch up as well as to let faithful fans settle in for a long fall with their favorite Glee club members.

Within the first few minutes it is rapidly established that both the New Directions Glee club and the Cheerios cheer team are having their budgets slashed to add money to the football fund. New coach Shannon Beiste is introduced and is on the receiving end of Sue Sylvester and Will's wrath for much of the show.

In an effort to combat the budget cut and attract new members to New Directions, Will suggests the group capitalize on New York City being the setting for Glee club nationals. Cue "Empire State of Mind, Pt. 1" as the first musical number of the night. The rap and song were carried out with the usual mixture of fun and embarrassment that comes from people, even talented people, trying to be cool while rapping.

Other musical highlights included Rachel and Sunshine vocally dueling to Lady Gaga's smash "Telephone" followed by Sunshine's solo of "Listen" from the Dreamgirls motion picture soundtrack. The rendition of "Listen" completely owned the evening despite stiff competition from Rachel's "What I Did for Love" solo. Both songs will undoubtedly be buzzed about over many water coolers. In the end, despite her killer solo, Sunshine abandoned New Directions for a rival club. She will surely be encountered again in the future, maybe even at nationals in New York!

Despite the buzz over the season premiere episode of Glee and Charice's smashing version of "Listen", an even bigger buzz is beginning for next week's Britney Spears episode! The previews looked hot with glimpses of Heather (Brittany) performing "Toxic" and Lea Michelle (Rachel) performing "Baby One More Time." " Britney, Brittany" will air on September 28 , 2010. Spears will co-star and a favorite character will make her season debut.
