Season Two of "Mad Men" Ends, but Its Fashion Influence Continues

Elliot Feldman
The sleek yet buttoned-down look of the early 1960s is back thanks to "Mad Men," the acclaimed AMC network period-piece television series about Madison Avenue advertising hucksters. Thin ties and lapels for the men, and bullet bras and poofy crinoline dresses for the women are showing up on fashion runways from top-of-the-line designers like Michael Kors, Peter Som, and Prada. Fourteen Bloomingdale's department store locations even have "Mad Men" in-store boutiques with fashions from design firm "theory."

Fashion mavens have to thank the show's costume designer, Katherine Jane Bryant, for reflecting the distinct look of the period. In fact, to celebrate the launch of season two of "Mad Men", "Project Runway" host Michael Kors threw a private party for the cast members.

For those of us who may not be able to afford designer label clothing inspired by "Mad Men", there are many vintage clothing stores selling the real items at affordable prices.

It's no accident that Don Draper was created by a central contributor to The Sopranos. Draper is no different from Tony Soprano in ruthlessness. He's a business world version of a contract hitman. ... Liked your review.

Read my interpretation of the season premiere of Season #4 and let me know who you think is right: me, or the reviewer for the Chicago "Tribune" who has a theory about Don Draper.
