Seasonal Jobs Available in Grand Junction, Colorado

Kristie Sweet
The holidays can be a difficult time for people, especially in today's tight economy, but they also offer opportunities that aren't available the rest of the year. Many companies offer temporary employment through the holidays, some of those right here in Junction and the surrounding areas.

1. RadioShack: Seasonal Retail Sales Associate. Like most businesses, the Shack gets very busy in December, and they can use some extra hands. This job requires the employee to greet and serve customers.

Part-time, temporary (December 2009), no salary given

Requires the ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays but does not require any work experience. These positions are available not only at the two Grand Junction stores but also in surrounding areas such as Montrose.

There have been some RadioShack employment ads prior to the season, so this might be a good way to get your foot in the door if you are looking for something more permanent, as well.

To apply, call 1-800-THE-SHACK or go to radioshackcareers.com.

2. JC Penney Portrait Studio: Studio Team Member. Pictures are a common gift for the holidays, especially those of young children. Family groups will often get together at this time of year and be looking for a photo, as well, so the portrait center expects to be busy. This job requires only a high school diploma.

Part-time, temporary, no salary given

This job doesn't require experience, either; they say they will train a good candidate. They do require someone who is willing to work a flexible schedule and enjoys working with kids.

Although no salary or specific dates of employment are given, Penney's does add that employees get a store discount, always helpful during the holidays, and have advancement opportunities. This sounds like another job that could turn into something full time and/or year-round.

To apply, email your resume to SMP0620@lifetouch.com. (Those are zeroes.)

3. Blockbuster Video: Seasonal Customer Service Representative. I have to admit this one surprised me, but apparently video stores get quite the business pick-up for December, also. This position requires employees to complete transactions with customers through the computerized point-of-sale system and help make sure the store appearance is in compliance with company requirements.

Part-time, no dates or salary given

For this position, applicants should have between six months and two years retail experience and a high school diploma or GED.

To apply, go to blockbuster.taleo.net/careersection/stores_csr_ext/jobdetail.ft1.

4. Macy's: Holiday Sales Associate. This sounds like a typical department store position for a department store's busiest time of year. Associates are expected to greet customers, attend to the phone, assist in maintaining the appearances required of the floor, get familiar with back stock and in general create a positive experience for customers.

This position says nothing about hours or days of employment other than that the candidate must be willing to work flexible hours, weekends, Black Friday (the Friday after Thanksgiving) and December 26.

The only specific experience/skills requirement listed is good communication skills. You should also note that Macy's employees get a 20% discount.

To apply, go to macysjobs.com.

Many of these positions could fit high school or college students looking for work during the break, or other folks looking for a little extra cash for holiday gifts. And if you are looking for year-round work, taking a seasonal position might get you there.
