Seasons of Life

Cheryl Williams
Summer sun fades.

A quilt of rust and yellow

blankets the ground,

preparing for winter's chill.

Creatures, big and small

find shelter in cozy dwellings

or simply sleep, oblivious

to the harshness to come.

Mugs of steaming cider,

brightly colored sweaters,

coffee cakes fresh from the oven

fill the happy place of those

who are in tune with their senses.

They wrap themselves in such moments,

embracing change as a lover.

Others sit in dreary corners,

dreaming of springtime.

Such are the seasons of life.
