Seat Belt Laws

They Dont Care If We Live They Just Dont Want to Pay for Our Death

There are a lot of ridiculous laws out there, but the one i find most insane is a little law about seat belts. In just about every state in the US not wearing a seat belt is considered a traffic violation resulting in a fine, granted the fines aren't very high ranging from about twenty-five to fifty dollars per person in most states and up to two hundred dollars in texas(i guess everything really is bigger in texas), but i just dont feel thats right i mean who are you to demand money from me if decide to gamble with my own life by not wearing a seat belt in a vehicle i paid for. what, regular tax money doesnt generate enough finance for the state you have to stoop to such an offensive measure? how blind are people that they cant see they just want money and are using the fear of getting killed or hurt to extort money from you am i the only one thats offended?

On the other hand of course wearing a seat belt can reduce and or prevent injury im not telling you not to wear a seat belt but, they arent going to prevent death and or injury every time you are in a vehicle, a grim example...while wearing a seat belt you get involved in a collision or just wreck your vehicle flipping it upside down and in the process breaking both of your arms...how could you get out before your vehicle catches fire or explodes? of course this is an extreme and probably wont happen often but, there are plenty of people who are not wearing a seat belt when they get involved in horrific crash and they escape alive with little to no life threatening injury so until the day someone can invent some kind of device that will prevent injury and or death 100 percent of the time the law and fines should be abolished. Really if that law remains whos to say there wont be even more ridiculous laws passed i mean whats next passing a law stating it is now mandatory to wear a bulletproof vest when you go to the bank just in case it gets robbed?

I agree with your article. Actually seat belts are not safe in all accidents, but the lawmakers don't tell people these statistics. I was personally involved in a rollover accident, and it crushed the cab of my vehicle. If I had been restrained by a seat belt, I would have been crushed as well. The police and ambulance service both said I better be glad I was not wearing a seat belt. Check out my article on this to find out more ways seat belts are not always safe. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1966116/should_it_be_the_law_to_wear_your_seat.html?cat=17

I meant the fine is not a good thing for the person breaking the law.

I reckon the seat belt law is just so that people will put on their seat belts whenever in a moving vehicle. Of course, being fined for it is not a good thing.

In addition to what Holly said, someone else has to scrape the person's head off the ground after they've gone through the window - not to mention the people in the back seat who weren't wearing seatbelts and slammed into the people in the front seat.

true but the chances of that specific situation(as with my breaking both arms scenerio) happening are slim and i shouldnt have to pay money because of the chance something might happen when just as many people escape car crashes without a scratch

I have to respectfully disagree. When you do not wear a seatbelt, you have the potential to become a 200-pound projectile. If you were thrown from your vehicle, your body could go straight through another car, hitting another person, causing them great bodily harm or even killing them. You are not just a danger to yourself at that point, but you are a danger to others around you. I believe this is why the seatbelt law came into being.
