Working at a desk doesn't give you much chance of an upper body workout, even if you're typing on a keyboard. You can still exercise your upper body from the comfort of your desk chair with these seated upper body exercises to do at your desk.

If you work at a desk job for a living, whether at home or somewhere else, it can be hard to find time to exercise. You may not want to fit small workouts in during breaks if you have other activities to do. By taking just a minute here and there throughout your workday, you can fit in some upper body exercises. Small exercise breaks throughout your workday can keep you energized and alert to do your job.

If you have back or wrist problems, you may not be able to perform these exercises. Please consult your doctor for modifications. Also, if you experience back or wrist pain while doing any of these upper body exercises, stop and consult your doctor.

Seated Body Lifts. Sitting about half way to the edge of your chair, feet on the floor, place your hands flat on your chair. You may have to place them slightly under your rear. Keep your knees bent and feet on the floor as you push to lift your body off the chair. Your rear may not completely leave the seat as you lift up. It's OK if you leave your feet on the floor, just be sure to use your arms and not your legs while lifting yourself off of the chair. Lower yourself back to the chair and repeat.

Desk Push-Up. Be sure your chair is locked into a stationary position if it has wheels or rollers. Sitting on the edge of your seat, place your hands on the edge of your desk. Lean your body down to your desk as you inhale, then push yourself up as you exhale. This will be similar in form to a wall push-up. You will not be getting a lot of body weight, but the movement will help to tone your upper body.
