Seaweed Baths and Eczema

Kelly Brinks
Eczema is a skin disorder characterized my itchy rashes that appear red or dry, in severe cases, they sometimes ooze and become crusty from blisters. There are many drugs on the market now to help "cure" eczema. In reality however, there is no cure, merely a myriad of treatments that help reduce the symptoms. Historically, many of the these treatments involved expensive prescription and topical creams. Lately however, there has been a shift toward natural treatments. Aling these lines, you can take seaweed baths, take supplements that contain probiotic "the good bacteria", or take topical herbal creams, and taking GLA. These all work to help fight the discomfort of living with eczema.

Herbal creams or gels made from natural extracts, such as chamomile, licorice, and witch hazel have also been explored to reduce symptoms of eczema. They can lessen the itching, swelling, and reduce the redness associated with Eczema. Multiple double-blind studies have been done and the results generally indicate improvement to eczema when you use an herbal cream or gel that compose these compounds. One caveat, make sure you speak to your doctor first; people have an allergic reaction to chamomile.

Gamma-linolenic acids (GLA), such as evening primrose oil and borage oil, are a type of essential fatty acid. GLA has been shown to correct deficiencies in skin lipids that can trigger inflammation, which is why it is thought to help with eczema. Although some studies have shown that GLA does not cause relief from eczema.

You have probably already heard of Probiotics, They have been advertised to regulate your digestive system. You can find it in yogurts, cheeses, and now a day's inn about everything. Studies have shown that if an affected pregnant mom takes Probiotic supplements the unborn baby has a less likely chance of being born with eczema and other skin allergies. If the infant continues to take the Probiotics it is shown to reduce the chance of eczema starting later in life.

Of those that have gained recent traction, seaweed based treatments are near the top of the list. Today, seaweed based treatments are an integral part of both Thalassotherapy and Balneotherapy which are traditional, holistic marine-based therapies that use natural elements found in the ocean to restore wellness.

The Seaweed Company is a recent introduction to the market and they make a powder that contains oils that you put in your bath. One package of 100% all natural seaweed bath powder last about 6-8 baths. Sitting in the bath for just 35 minutes is said to improve how your skin feels, increase softness, reduce inflammation and make you more relaxed. The all natural products from the Seaweed Company are a safe and effective way to help reduce the ailments of Eczema.
