SEC Predictions: Week 6

ED Watts
Every SEC team plays in the sixth week of the college football season. Following are my predictions for the outcome of each game.

Mississippi State vs. Houston

Houston gets back on track this week with a win over Mississippi State. Houston was upset by UTEP last week, but before that, they had wins against Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. As long as they can shake off that loss, they should be able to put away the Bulldogs, whose only win worth mentioning was at Vanderbilt.

Kentucky at South Carolina

South Carolina takes on Kentucky in Columbia to put away a decade of wins against the Wildcats. That's right; Kentucky hasn't beaten South Carolina since the start of the new millennium. It won't be easy, though. Kentucky will be looking for a win after being trounced by Florida and Alabama the past two weeks and will put up a fight, but South Carolina will come away victorious.

Florida at LSU

This game must have the experts' heads spinning in Vegas since it hasn't been announced whether or not Tim Tebow will have to sit out because of that concussion he got in the Kentucky game. If Tebow plays healthy, Florida wins it. If not, LSU will deliver Florida their first loss.

Alabama at Ole Miss

Ole Miss comes into this game with one loss, against South Carolina, but other wins were against inferior opponents. The Rebels will give Alabama a fit, but Alabama comes out on top in this road game.

Georgia at Tennessee

I would like to say that Tennessee will win this one since they're playing Georgia, but I must give the nod to Mark Richt and the Bulldogs. Tennessee will be outmatched in almost every aspect of the game - coaching, offense, and special teams. The biggest things the Vols have going for them is their defense and that this is a home game. They may be able to pull off the win, but I think that Georgia will serve Tennessee their second loss in a string of losses.

Auburn at Arkansas

The game in Fayetteville should be high scoring, if nothing else. Auburn and Arkansas both have very good offenses and just okay defenses. Even though it's an away game, Auburn will pull off a close win against the Hogs.

Vanderbilt at Army

Even though it is tempting to say that Vanderbilt wins this one because they're playing a team that lost to Duke, some of the stats say otherwise. Vanderbilt has given up an average of 160 rushing yards per game and almost 200 a game since their season opener, where they won 45-0 over WCU. Army has a very good running game that averages 230 yards per game. If Army can limit turnovers, they should beat this SEC team.

Tennessee can beat Georgia if Crompton quits playing incompetent. Doubt he will, so they lose. But I'm gonna go on a limb and say if Brantley plays at LSU, Florida still wins :-)
