During the first ever Founders Day celebration last year, a crowd of thousands surrounded the City Hall in Auburn, NY while a very special guest delivered a welcome speech. Sarah Palin was a big hit for residents of Auburn, and this event may have created the largest crowd that every gathered in Auburn, NY.

Last years' event may be tough to beat, but I am confident that fellow Auburn residents will recognize what the true purpose of the Founders Day celebration was all about. (It's about coming together as a community to celebrate our local history. Plus, there's beer!!!)

So this year, the City of Auburn moved on to pay due appreciation by dedicating the Second Annual Founders Day Festival on Saturday, June 12th, to the notable achievements of Theodore Case with an American Film theme to all activities throughout the day.

What to Expect at the Second Annual Founders Day Festival...

Theodore Case was an Auburn resident who invented Sound on Film, and it goes without saying that his contributions left a huge impact on the Film industry. To celebrate, the Founders Day Parade (beginning at 11 am in Downtown Auburn) will feature an American Film themed float contest, with cash prizes available to the three best floats, and another special guest from The Film Foundation will be delivering a speech on the steps of City Hall.

The Auburn Public Theater will be hosting a Theodore Case Film Festival from 1pm to 5pm, presented by the Cayuga Museum, as well as a play focusing on Theodore Case and his inventions (show time are 2pm, 2:30pm, and 4pm.) For more information on these events, please contact the Auburn Public Theater at (315)253-6639.

Naturally, both the Cayuga Museum and the Case Research Lab will be open for self-guided tours this day, between the hours of 3pm and 6pm, and the Case Mansion at 108 South St will be open from 2pm until 4pm. Whether you're a local resident or just visiting, these destinations are highly recommended for gaining a deeper appreciation of local- and nationally significant- achievements.

Live music will be performed all afternoon on the Downtown Stage and there will be arts, crafts, and food vendors will be set up (featuring local Food Competitions throughout the day) providing shopping and fun activities for all ages.

If you go, don't forget to stop by the Exchange Street Mall where Stan Kolonko of The Ice Farm will be providing an Ice Sculpture demonstration.

For the true party animals, the Founders Day Festivities will carry on into an Evening Dance until 10 pm, with live music performed on the Downtown Stage.

Where to Stay If You Are Coming from Out of Town...

A portion of Genesee Street in Downtown Auburn, NY will be shut down to traffic until 10pm, so be sure to call early and book your reservations at nearby lodging, for a conveniently close walk to the Founders Day American Film Festival activities.
