Second Life Marriage

Christopher Blydenburgh
Last night I was conducting a random search on the teleport tool within the Internet based program called Second Life. I think I was actually searching for clubs when I stumbled across an island title that said "Love Story Weddings." Out of simple interest I teleported to that island to see what is was all about.

When I got to this island, I was simply amazed! When I first arrived, I was in the center office of the business. On the wall was a picture of each of the five wedding themes available on this beautiful island (Beach, Castle, Chapel, Garden, and Winter). When you click on these in-world images, a note card is given to you that goes into great detail about the services offered here. The services range from a simple elopement with just the couple and the minister to an elaborate full wedding service with bridesmaids, groomsmen, maid of honor, best man, and the couple. The best package also has a reception hall with live DJ, honeymoon suite (a very sweet log cabin loft style home perched in the sky for absolute privacy), custom wedding cake, framed vows to post within your virtual home, and photographs of the wedding and wedding party, even a video that you can distribute to everyone you know.

I spent some time with BigCasper Blanco (second life name), the owner of Love Story Weddings while I was on the island. He gave me a tour of the entire island including the five wedding themes, reception halls, and the honeymoon suite. We also briefly talked about the wedding packages he offers there with the prices ranging from $1,500L to $29,000L. $L is Linden dollars, the "virtual money" used in-world for the exchange of goods and services. The Linden dollars does cost real money to buy (though not expensive) the current average conversion from Linden dollars to USD is about $375L to $1USD. This being said the wedding packages here range from $5-$105USD.

If you are looking to surprise that special someone with a mock wedding, I highly recommend you check this place out! One last thing, BigCasper told me that if a couple can prove residency in the same state that the minister providing the ceremony is titled in, the wedding could be handled as a legally binding marriage with state wedding licenses and all that stuff, an interesting thought for those that just can't afford a $25,000 real life wedding!

  • You can get a mock wedding in Second Life.
  • In some states you can be legally married on this island!
  • Prices for services range from $5 -$105
In speaking to BigCasper Blanco about this business, it turns out that if the couple lives in the same state as the minister in this wedding, they could opt to legalize the marriage!
