Secret Clinical Strength Deodorant Review

Having had numerous, yet sometimes humorous, conversations about my sweaty pits with my husband and trying every combination and product out there, I thought I'd give my two cents about the clinical strength deodorant that Secret has on the market. Here's the problem, I sweat and I don't mean lightly. Now mind you, it's not that I sweat profusely or all over, but living in Florida, dealing with humid heat and extremely hot temperatures most of the year, I can say that I have had my days where nothing seems to help.

Two layers, three layers, whatever it takes to get the job done. That's what I have done in the past and will probably continue to do until the day my sweaty underarms and I are six feet under, though I will probably still be sweating, even then. I never much cared for solids or gels or whatever gooey stuff is out there now. I always preferred the sprays because I felt that they weren't leaving this nasty film on my underarms which would eventually rub off on my clothes anyways. The problem is that after using one for a week or so, it seemed to become less effective. Now I have not found any research to back up that you can become immune, well that your underarms can become immune to your deodorant, but I still think if I changed it every once in a while then the performance of whatever I was using would improve. Unfortunately, it always seemed at some point it wasn't working. So out comes Secret Clinical Strength and my husband was the first to suggest I try it, so that I did.

When I first broke down and spent the eight plus dollars to purchase Secret Clinical Strength, I just prayed it would work for that kind of money. The first day I tried it I thought, "Wow, this stuff really works!", and it does. I was very pleased the first week or two of using it and realizing I wasn't having days where nothing I did could help. I was so pleased to have an alternative that worked and then one day it wasn't working so well, so I went back to my usual routine, layering. After I applied the Secret Clinical Strength, I added a shot of a spray, probably Degree or maybe even Secret aerosol. That got me through the day but then I had to decide whether or not I would stick with the clinical strength product since it was quite costly. I don't know about you, but these days I'd rather sweat a little than not have gas in my car, so something or someone had to suffer.

I found myself at Wal-Mart this past weekend to purchase some items, including another stick of Secret Clinical Strength. I was happy at first to see that the product was a little cheaper here than where I purchased my previous one, however it was still going to be close to $8 out the door. The other issue is the size of the stick. It is quite small and once you dial-up the deodorant for application, you realize how little of the stuff you actually get in that contained for the price. Since I was having a hard time talking myself in to buying it again and began to look at the aerosols instead, I thought, let's just see what the different ingredients are so maybe I can come close to the expensive stuff without spending the money. I grabbed a stick of every Secret product on the shelf, which included the Platinum, the original and others. That was the moment of truth and a financial breakthrough for me.

Keep in mind, when you compare ingredients in your product, first look at the active ingredients. Most will list those separately and the other ingredients won't have anything to do with the strength of a product. Remember that next time you buy a bug spray or a cleaning product as the active ingredients can vary in effectiveness, so look for the higher contents, which will probably also mean a little more cost, but if it works better wouldn't you want that brand? Secret Clinical Strength boasts 20% Aluminum Zirconium Tricholorhydrex Gly as their active ingredient which supposedly is what backs up the purpose of the higher cost. However, as I stood there for several minutes perusing the various Secret products and annoying everyone else that wanted to just grab a stick and go, I looked at the active ingredient and guess what? Turns out that I was able to purchase a regular stick of Secret, which is about twice the size of the Secret Clinical Strength stick, for well under $3.00. The crazy part is that the Secret ingredient, no pun intended, is actually the same as in the Clinical Strength, but with a measly difference of 1%. That means for 19% of the active ingredient in Secret you can get more deodorant for a lot less money. If you don't believe me, try testing them yourselves and see if one works better than the other or not. I am now wearing regular Secret and have kept dryer, or on some days just as dry, as with the five dollar more stick of Secret Clinical Strength. Maybe when they get more of the active ingredient in a product I might change again, but it is not worth it for only 1% more of the active ingredient.
