Secret Diary of a Call Girl: Review of Episode 1

Last night on Showtime, the series premier of Secret Diary of a Call Girl aired. It is based on the true story of a college graduate in London, England who realizes that her college degree is not paying her bills, so she turns to prostitution. The character is played by Billie Piper. She loves the money and she loves the sex. She is a high class hooker and she charges by the hour. Her name by day, where she lives a regular life, is Hannah. By night, she goes by Belle, her business name. She tries to keep her two lives separate. She has a separate side of the closet for her two wardrobes for both lives and even separate bedrooms. Even in the first episode, you can sense the two lives already blurring together. With one of her "clients" she ends up telling him her real name is Hannah and when the camera zooms out, you see they are hanging out in her bedroom that's not for business.

Belle works for an agency and her agents name is Stephanie. She is an ex-call girl and manages several other call girls as well. When a client calls, Stephanie hooks the client up with the call girl that best matches his/her request. I say "her" because at the end of the first episode, it shows other scenes from the upcoming season. One of them included Belle making out with another girl in a possible lesbian or orgy situation. Her parents don't know what her job is. They think she is a night working legal secretary. She desperately wants to keep her prostitution a secret from them and everyone who is in Hannah's life.

In the first episode of Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Belle has several clients. The ones she likes the best though, are when she gets to act like someone else. There's a scene where she has a saddle in her hand and next thing you know, she is riding on the back of a man's back as he is wearing the saddle, like a horse. She has a whip in her hand and she is dressed up as a sexy cowgirl. The client is blindfolded and dressed in a bondage head dress sort of thing.

Secret Diary of a Call Girl is definitely different from any other shows out there right now. I'm not sure if it's as good as some of Showtime's other series or not, since I've only seen one episode. I will watch a few more and see if it holds my attention a bit more than the first episode did. The first episode had some nudity, but not near as much as I thought it would, being it is all about the call girl business. Since it is a Showtime series, I'm sure the upcoming episodes will have much more. Their series are never short on sex scenes!
