Secret Summer Hot Spot Just Minutes from Athens Georgia

Athens, Georgia is a busy college town with many local attractions and musical talent. The music scene in Athens is big business. Any night of the week, you can find quality entertainment somewhere within the Classic City's downtown area. Many locals and visitors are familiar with the nightlife of Athens, Georgia but not many know of a secret entertainment "gem" located not too far from the University of Georgia campus. About 15 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Athens, Georgia, is a little town called Jefferson. In the heart of Jefferson, Georgia you will find a local lunch-time hangout for the locals called Mike's Grill. Tucked neatly behind Mike's Grill is the entrance to a local nightlife hot-spot called Mike's Down Under. Known in the area for their great weekend entertainment, Mike's Down Under still remains an excellent bar and grill to escape to on busy nights in the Athens area.

Each Saturday night in the quaint town of Jefferson, the lights go down at Mike's Down Under and true local entertainment hits the stage. Athens, Georgia is not only known for the University of Georgia Bulldogs, but it also known for cultivating some of music's most popular groups and singers. Mike Carron, owner of Mike's Down Under, follows this tradition of the area by bringing some of the finest musicians to his stage each weekend and often exposing some new faces that are sure for stardom.

This month alone, Mikes Down Under will be hosting The Tangents, Eli Carlan Band, Redneck Blonde, and the increasing popular and talented local-boy, Brantley Gilbert.

Brantley Gilbert was born and raised in Jefferson, Georgia, and has accumulated quite an impressive fan base. Just one listen to his soulful lyrics and God-given voice will make you see why this young man is destined for the big-time. Brantley posted on his MySpace page, "Growing up in a small town isn't always easy, sometimes you just have to make the best of things.... ". The lyrics and themes to his music reflects his quote with his mesmerizing voice that enchants every syllable he sings.

While Brantley Gilbert can often be found performing at The Georgia Theater in Athens, as well as venues all over the state, he comes "back home" to Mike's Down Under quite often. Southern boys know and honor their roots, and Brantley Gilbert is no exception to the rule.

Brantley has been writing and playing his music since he was a youngster in grade school and finally his dedication to his craft is paying off. Remember the name. I have no doubt that Brantley Gilbert will be a popular name in many households in the near future.
