Secretariat: Disney Film to Be Released October 2010

A Movie for Horse Lovers to Keep You in the Horse Racing Spirit Year 'Round

With the Belmont Stakes coming up this Saturday, it seemed like the appropriate time to take a look at the soon to be released Disney movie, Secretariat. If you're a horse lover, this film, starring Diane Lane and John Malkovich, is a great choice for you.

The Disney film, Secretariat, to be released October 8, 2010 tells the story of Penny Chenery (Diane Lane), a housewife and mother completely unlearned in horse racing at the outset. Penny Chenery took over her sick father's Meadow Stables and became owner of the future 1973 Triple Crown winner, Secretariat, a horse who breezed past the competition as if there weren't any, claiming victory at the Belmont Stakes by a 31-length margin.

Penny Chenery, aided by veteran trainer Lucien Laurin (John Malkovich), took the racing industry head-on, as few women have, and captured attention with her gutsy charisma.

Much like the story of Seabiscuit, Secretariat, re-invigorated the public following the end of US involvement in the Vietnam War and at the beginning of the Watergate scandal.

From the online trailer and preview showing in theaters right now, Secretariat looks to be a movie that is well worth the price of admission; I will most definitely be in my local theater for this one come October. Even though we didn't end up with a Triple Crown winner this year, Secretariat marked one of the most amazing Triple Crown victories in history.

Looks to be well down in the glossy way that all Diz flicks are.

Yes, I will be watching this one in the theatre as well. Seabiscuit was good but had some inaccuracies, but was still more true to life than the original Seabiscuit flick. Since Penny had a huge roll in this one, she will likely have helped make sure it is more accurate.
