Secrets

Darlene Zagata
Some deep dark secret
From a fractured past
Boils in the blood of ages
Fears hidden just below the surface
Of an ebbing exterior
Bold statements denounce fear
Pages on an open book flutter
All are liars
Betrayers of self and all else
Nightfall is a blanket of comfort
For all who seek shelter in it.
The slumber of dreams
Is an escape route
From the madness
That drives us during
Daylight hours - wanderers
In a strange land called home
We roam - no direction
Only instrucions drilled
Into a subsconcious mind
Destined to roam - to fill
A role we do not understand
To seek and know not what
We're looking for - to hide
And know not from what
We seek shelter and solace.
An invisible enemy
Within and without
Shared secrets
Of a forgotten past
Looms like a cloud
Shadowing joy and love
Searching for the truth of eras
Knowing it not...
Time is the keeper of all secret
We are both the hunted
and the hunter.
