Secrets: The Silent Killer

Everyone keeps secrets, whether they're your own, or someone elses. Most people tend to share their secrets with close friends and family members, but there are some people who keep their secrets to themselves. These people are like a bottle of coke that has been shaken up is ready to burst; either the bottle cap will pop open, and they will spill all the secrets out to other people that they do not even know, or the glass botttle with shatter, and they will end up damaging or killing themselves internally. The question then becomes, should you spill the beans and tell people all the secrets that other people tell you, or should you keep them secret and confidential, like they were supposed to be, even if it is eating you up inside?

When a person keeps his feelings and secrets to himself, they tend to eat away at that person. This phenomen usually occurs because as humans, we need people to share our feelings with. When we conceal our thoughts, we tend to develop a need or a longing for someone to share them with.

In the book, "Double Helix," Eli's father keeps hiding things from Eli. A possible reason as to why Eli's father does this, is because he not have a sane wife to share his feelings with, and he feels that his son is too imature, to be able to possibily comprehend the problems that he is going through. Another reason Eli's father is keeping secrets is probabily because, Eli's father is hiding something that he thinks might hurt his son, and so in turn, he decides to hide it, in the hopes that he would not find out about them.

As humans, we tend to become a little over protective. This is probably because we tend to make so many mistakes within out own lives, which sometimes end up hurting us greatly, and so as parents we would hate to see our children get hurt. Although parents don't realize immediately, they soon come to realize that by protecting their children too much, they end up making a huge mistake, and their children become damaged from it. As humans, we were created / built with broad, open minds that make us curious, and want to explore our own environment. If we were to lose our ability to discover, then we would have no reason to live.
