How to Stay Healthy and Fit While on Vacation or a Business Trip

So you find out that soon you will leave town for a business trip or just on vacation and although you are excited, there is something that is hard to leave behind: your exercise routine. You fear that your next vacation or business trip will take away the flow of the exercising routine that has cost you so much to keep up and maintain. Mostly you worry about gaining weight.

Besides, you feel that you will miss that vital energy that only exercise provides. So don't leave your routine at home! Check out these secrets to exercise when you travel.

Exercise where you go.

Today, many hotels have gyms and pools for their guests. Ask the hotel you're staying in if they have one or if there's a gym or a park nearby so you can go. In some hotels or cities you can even rent bikes or rollerblades.

Plan ahead so you're prepared while on the trip.

Think of the potential impediments to further help you find your exercise routine - a demanding schedule of meetings or activities, a different climate, lack of sports facilities. Think of a solution and don't wait until you arrive to the place you're visiting to decide what you'll do about it. Organize your schedule in advance, and if possible, it is ideal to dedicate 1 or 2 hours for exercise in the morning, as the nights are usually spent dealing with social activities.

Include in your suitcase your sports clothing and shoes for exercising. You obviously won't be able to carry the elliptical machine in your suitcase, but you can take a jump rope, running or walking shoes, bathing suit and even a workout resistance band.

Give room for creativity.

Although it may seem unachievable, there are many times when you can exercise during your business trip. You can walk in the airport while waiting for your flight, walk to the meeting places rather than driving a car, walk around the city you are visiting, use the hotel stairs instead of the elevator, do stretching exercises in your room or even look for aerobic programs on TV.

Exercise with others.

As far as having some company on your workouts, find out if colleagues that are also traveling with you would like to join you on exercise activities. This will encourage them and yourself.

Vacations during the holidays.

Vacation during the holidays can get a little tricky. Whether it is with family or friends, no one will really be bothered if you take time to do your routine. This will actually show determination and responsibility on your end. Exercising in the morning is best, because nights are usually planned when on vacation and it's pretty safe to say that you would cross other family plans.

Always be ready and include in your suitcase your walking or running shoes and your bathing suit, it is also smart to find out in advance what the possibilities of exercising in the area you're going are.

Walk as much as possible. Get a map of the city to check for any walking tours. Take the opportunity to walk in the mall, museums, beach or park. Not only will you get to know the place better but you will also be exercising.

Include others in the activities to promote a health conscious trip amongst friends or family. Try to schedule recreational activities with family or groups of friends that involve some type of physical activity as a walking tour, taking a bike ride through a park, riding a kayak in a lake or a football or beach volleyball game. It's important that everyone is engaged in the activity so everyone has fun while staying active.

It's not horrible or impossible. Exercising while traveling is entirely feasible and most importantly it brings many benefits. During a business trip the exercise will help lower stress levels and keep your energy high. And when you're on vacation, it helps relieve stress and fatigue that has accumulated in your body throughout the year.
