Secrets of a Successful First Kiss

Kristi Patrice Carter
Whether you are kissing for the very first time, or kissing a new partner for the first time, first kisses are fraught with high expectations, nerves, and excitement. Here are some secrets to making your first kiss a success!

Secret #1

Personal hygiene should always come first when even contemplating a first kiss. If you just ate something garlicky or haven't had time to brush your teeth, then hold off on the first kiss. You do not want the first impression your partner has a disgusting and foul tasting one.

You should evaluate your complete personal hygiene, not just your breath. Make sure you are freshly showered, smell good and clean, and that your partner cannot smell your cologne or perfume from a block away. Keep it subtle so they move close for another sniff.

Secret #2

Timing is the second secret to a great first kiss. If your partner is not on the same wavelength as you, your first kiss attempt will fall flat. Pay attention to the subtle clues of body language. A partner who wants to be kissed will lean towards you, not away; steal glances at your mouth; and hesitates when you move close. Pick up on these signs and make your move.

Your move shouldn't be rushed or forceful. A slow and graceful approach will be romantic and show your partner that you respect them.

Secret #3

You may want to start by placing a soft kiss on your partner's hand or cheek before moving on to the mouth. Keep staring into your partner's eyes and remember to caress their arms or neck slowly. As your partner starts opening their mouth and leaning in, begin to kiss their mouth. Let the kiss slowly and naturally progress as excitement builds.

Secret #4

Keep taking cues from your partner as to whether they want to slow down or speed up. A great first kiss takes two people, so both people have to enjoy it. Whisper soft compliments in your partner's ear to show your interest. Let your partner decide when to end the kiss or keep it going.

These secrets will help make your first kiss successful and keep your partner coming back for a second kiss, a third kiss, and countless more!
