Sedona, Arizona: Nature's Masterpiece

JG Florencio
Sedona, Arizona is one of those places that should be a lot more famous than it is. More interesting than the Grand Canyon, more accommodating than Flagstaff, more beautiful than Phoenix, one wonders why Sedona hasn't attained more fame than those three cities.

Located several miles south of Flagstaff, Sedona is an outdoor person's paradise. Possessive of more natural beauty than the girl next door, Sedona's red rocks and greeneries makes for art of the most natural kind. While the words 'red rocks' do not necessarily scream excitement for most people, people of a certain bend will enjoy looking around the many hills, mountains and trails for their favorite formations. Photographers will enjoy taking pictures of almost anything within the area; any bad pictures taken here are definitely the fault of the camera holder. Or, if one is so inclined, the camera.

The climate is also not that harsh; compared to most of Arizona, traveling to Sedona will not require one to write a last will prior to leaving the house during noontime. It is a climate most easily described as 'mild.' Summers are not deadly hot, winters are not bone chillingly cold.

If one is not interested in outdoor formations but in formations of a more concrete kind, the multitude of shops and restaurants will satisfy even the most urbane of city dwellers.

Sedona is also an art city; art galleries are sprinkled liberally across the town like candy sprinkles on a very red and very stony cupcake. In fact, the particularly artsy visitor will find a lot to love in Sedona. From its inspiring views to its very active art community, one cannot help but be involved and somehow aspire to be part of such a community.

Most of the art is focused on the spirit of Arizona; deserts, cacti and southwestern life is commonly depicted in the numerous paintings and even on statues.

The typical visitor will want to visit Sedona during the fall or spring; as mentioned, while the climate is not harsh, one's enjoyment of the place will depend greatly on the prevailing weather conditions, it being an outdoor oriented location. Sedona is also particularly beautiful during springtime.

So, if you are by any chance headed to Arizona and is wondering where to go that is different and representative of the state, visit Sedona. At the very least, one is guaranteed to have an interesting time.
