See Jamnagar, the Paris of Gujarat State in India

There are many beautiful cities in the State of Gujarat in India. One of such cities is Jamnagar. Jamnagar is situated in the Northern part of Gujarat. It is known as Paris of the Gujarat State due to its most planned, systematic, and beautiful layout. Jamnagar State was ruled by Jadeja rulers prior to independence and was considered one of the most powerful states of India. The credit for this goes to the wise and kind rulers of Jamnagar, who took real care of their people, considering them as their children. The weather of Jamnagar is very moderate all throughout the year. The summer is not very severe and so as the winter. The city has an area of around 15 square kilometers. Jamnagar was built in the year 1540 by the then, king of Jamnagar, Jam Raval. The city is located at the junction of Rivers Nagmati and Rangmati. It was called Navanagar at that time. There was a Muslim establishment here between the years 1663 to 1709. It was called Islamabad during that period. The name Jamnagar was given in the year 1714 based on the jam (Jadeja) rulers of this city. It was a city fully covered in side the fort till the year 1914. The famous King Jam Ranjitsingh changed the whole layout of the city with right angle roads with proper intersections, same layout of houses, facades, roundabouts, and fountains.

Jamnagar is well connected by all the three modes of transport, namely road, train, and air. There are regular buses plying from all the major cities of Gujarat. It is also connected by train from Mumbai and Ahmedabad. There are regular daily flights available from Rajkot, Bhuj, and Mumbai. Jamnagar is located around 200 miles from Ahmedabad. The best way is to travel by hired car or taxi from any major cities of Gujarat. The rates for hired car are around Rs. 6 (15 cents) per mile and you have to pay minimum rate for 180 miles per day. Some nominal night allowance is to be paid to the driver in addition to these rates. The car will be provided with a driver who shall be familiar with the local roads etc. you need to stay around 3/4 days here at Jamnagar to cover all the site seeing spots. There are many good hotels like President, Express, Raj, and Pathikashram. These hotels charge around Rs.1500 ($39) to Rs.3000 ($75) per day for nice double rooms depending upon the facilities provided by them.

There are many sites seeing spots at Jamnagar. The first and most vital is solarium. This solarium is known as Ranji Institute of Poly-Radio therapy center. The slowly revolving tower in the direction of the sun provides the most essential sunlight therapy to all cancer patients. This type of treatment is unique in India. The next is Lakhota fort. This palace cum fort cum museum is located in the middle of old city of Jamnagar amidst the waters of famous Lake Ranjit Sagar. This fort has the most exquisite museum with specimens of 9th to 18th century. The guns of old times and the swords used actually by the kings of Jamnagar are stored here. The adjoining building to Lakhota fort is Kotha Buraj. There is a deep well here. If you drill a hole in its floor, you can suck the water of the well by just sucking through your mouth, even today. It is required to buy an entrée ticket, costing Rs.20 (50 cents) to visit this fort and the Buraj. Most of the people of Jamnagar visit this Ranjit Sagar Lake in the evenings to get the fresh air of the Lake. There is a statue of jam Ranjit, covered by gold sheets here at the lake in the most beautiful garden.

The continuous Ramdhun is sung by the people at one of the Shiva temples at the Lake since last 96 years without a break of a single minute. This fact has also been recorded in the Guinness book of world records. The cremation place of Jamnagar is the next place that is worth visiting. It is called Adarsh Shmashan Gruh. The dead bodies of all the Hindus are burnt here. The Sanskrit shloks are written all over the place here. The most exquisite gardens and the statues of all great persons with beautiful water fountains make this place most memorable. There is a saying in India that the meals are famous of Surat and the death is famous of Jamnagar. There are many excursions also available to visit like Harshad Mata temple, Jalarambapa temple at Virpur, and Bhuveneshwari mataji temple at Gondal. All these places can be covered from Jamnagar in a day's outing. Jamnagar has gained lot of importance lately due to the giant petrochemicals complex set up by Reliance industries Ltd. Jamnagar is famous for hand embroidered saris, and brass utensils in various artistic designs.

Jamnagar is one of the most beautiful cities of India, particularly of Gujarat State. Many visitors visit this historical and beautiful city, which is also known as Paris of Gujarat in India. Would you like to visit it?
