Seeing Double? Factors that May Contribute to Twins or More!

Wanting to conceive but curious about your chances of having multiple babies? While it was previously thought that the only chance of conceiving multiples was contributed by hereditary, there are new studies that have shown other factors may be responsible for the conception of twins. Here are a look at some different factors that could lead to twins or more!

One factor that could lead to a multiple pregnancy is if you have had a few previous pregnancies before. As you have more children, your chances of having twins increases. Also, if you have had twins before, your chances of conceiving twins again is double that of a woman who had a single baby.

Age is another factor that can contribute to twins. If you are over the age of 35 you have a better chance of having twins. Many women who wait to conceive till later in life are often surprised to find they are having multiples during their first pregnancy.

Diet and weight can also contribute to the conception of multiples. Studies have shown that women who have a BMI over 30 have a higher chance of getting pregnant with twins. Some foods have also been shown to sway for twins. Women who consume a large amount of dairy products were 5 times more likely to have twins than women who excluded dairy from their diet.

If you have taken any type of fertility treatments, you may also run the risk of conceiving multiples. Women who take the fertility drug clomid to conceive are also running the risk of getting pregnant with more than one baby.

Lastly, while it is not the sole factor for a woman conceiving twins, if you have a family member who has had twins, then there is a good chance you could have them as well, especially if your grandparents had twins.
