Seeing the Grand Canyon from Nevada

Many vacationers combine their Las Vegas vacation with a trip to the Grand Canyon. Often, airfares to Las Vegas are the cheapest, so this makes travel sense. As you will see on a map, the Grand Canyon is located in northern Arizona 4.5 hours east of Las Vegas. The distance to the Grand Canyon is an easy drive down well-maintained roads and you will see a number of interesting sights along the way. By renting a car in Las Vegas, you can travel to the Hoover Dam area, take the Hoover Dam tour, and continue on across the Arizona border to the Grand Canyon National Park or the Hualapai Native American Reservation West Rim area that has the famous Grand Canyon Skywalk.

You can also book a number of motorcoach tours to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas, and if the weather is inclement, this might be your best option. Experienced drivers will get you to the West Rim Hualapai Native American Reservation with its fabled glass Skywalk or to the South Rim area of the Grand Canyon National Park.

Visitors often enjoy booking a helicopter tour to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas, and this is an easy way to combine the fun of Sin City with the natural wonder of the Canyon. On these tours, you will see the Grand Canyon, Lake Mead, the Colorado River, Boulder City, and and the surrounding landscape. Helicopter tours can fly over the Canyon, then land on the Canyon floor for a champagne lunch. They can also fly into Phantom Ranch (the Grand Canyon National Park's only lodging on the Canyon floor) heliport for an overnight stay. There are tours for every taste and price range.

Airplane tours from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon area are also popular. The Grand Canyon National Airport is located about 1 mile outside the Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim entrance, and is convenient for flights from Las Vegas.

Be sure to book a reputable tour company, and reserve your tour as early as possible. Summer is high tourist season for visitors to the Grand Canyon, and spaces may be limited. Inclement weather may affect your tour plans, so you may wish to consider having a backup plan.

Be aware that traffic from Nevada into Arizona from the Las Vegas around the Hoover Dam area is often congested Construction delays are common, so allow for more travel time through this area.
