Seek the Lord

Paula Carpenter
It seems that no matter how carefully and meticulously I label boxes whenwe move, there is always something that I spend days searching for. Thistime, it was the two pieces that snap onto the bottom of my Pampered ChefUtensil Caddy that make it turn in a cool little circle and hold ittogether. They weren't with the top two pieces because last Friday, as Iwas packing up the last of my kitchen, I decided that the caddy needed to berun through the dishwasher before I put it into a box. So I took it apart. This morning began Day 7 in the new apartment. I couldn't put my kitchenutensils into the caddy because you have to turn the thing upside down toput it together. Since I only had half of it, the kitchen utensils werescattered all over the kitchen counter. Kristen wandered into the room andasked if we were still planning to go finish up the Christmas shopping. Ipromised her that we would later in the afternoon but that I wanted to workon the kitchen some first. Mike pulled out the toolbox and began to hangpictures on the wall as I tackled boxes clearly labeled as "Kitchen". Twohours later, I had made a huge dent in the pile of boxes stacked against thewall. I had artwork hung in the bedroom, bathroom and hallway and Kristenhad just put the third load of laundry in the washing machine. But still nocaddy pieces. I half screamed in frustration as I got to the end of yet another box withno luck. "Mom, what are you looking for?" Kristen asked. When I told her she frowned and said "Then why are you digging in all those boxes? You're talking about the plastic thing with the balls in it right? The one you told me to put in the back seat of your truck because you forgot to put it in the box with the rest of the caddy? I saw it yesterday when we went to the store. Want me to go get it?" "Why didn't you tell me where it was before?" I asked her, not reallyknowing whether to laugh or cry. "You didn't ask me!" she said. So many times, we treat God the same way. We struggle through life, searching for something that we never seem to be able to find...when theanswer is right there in front of us. The problem that many of us have inour human nature is that we do not want to ask for help. And though God isreally good at solving problems and helping us get through our situations inlife, he will never force us to ask for his help. He waits to be asked. But oh what a promise that David reminds us will occur when we do ask! Psalm 34:4I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

Don't you think god wants us to figure things out for ourselves?
