Seeking Spirits: By Jason Hawes, Grant Wilson with Michael Jan Friedman: Book Review

Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson co-founders of The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) and stars of Syfy's Ghost Hunters, released Seeking Spirits on September 29, 2009. It recounts paranormal investigations performed by TAPS outside the realm of Ghost Hunters. The book is easy to read and flows well from start to finish.

Interjected between cases, Jason and Grant take turns providing background information about paranormal topics, offer tips for improving your investigative skills and make suggestions for equipment and tips for operating it.

Cases range from episodes that can only be described as demon possession to misguided clients suffering from psychological conditions that caused them to believe they were experiencing the paranormal.

Seeking Spirits challenged my thinking in regards to the paranormal and surprised me on more than one occasion. I had expected to read about residual ghosts, intelligent spirits and an occasional inhuman spirit, but what I got was much more.Elementals, aliens and doppelgangers were not what I expected, but they each earned their place in this intriguing book.

I found the personal accounts to be the most interesting, although the cases are all interesting and shed significant light on the paranormal . Grant finally reveals at least a portion of the experience that piqued his interest in the paranormal. I had always suspected, due to his reluctance to discuss his experience, that it was related to an inhuman spirit or demon possession. I was wrong.

Grant's experience is so unique that I cannot find the worlds to label it. You'll need to read it for yourself to get a picture of where Grant is coming from.

Jason's experience as explained in their first book Ghost Hunting (released Oct 2, 2008) is touched on, but does not add any new information. A detailed description of Christyn Gartland's experiences and how they lead her to TAPS rounds out the personal experience portion of the book.

Seeking Spirits also includes the history of paranormal activity at the Spaulding Inn, now owned by Jason and Grant.

If you are looking for some spine-tingling ghost stories told from the point of view of Ghost Hunters, Seeking Spirits is for you. But, I must warn you. It may just challenge your beliefs about the paranormal and may even leave you a bit unsettled.
