Sega which stands for "Service Games Japan" was officially registered in 1952 in Japan and it kicked off with the business of importing coin-operated instant photo booths that generated a lot of profits for the Sega Company. This resulted in the Sega Company making expansions through the importation of coin-operated electro mechanical games.
Sega released its first video game that used a special periscope viewer in delivering images individually to the eye. Games such as zaxxon and outrun made Sega a very popular company as these games had a great audience reception in the video game arena.
In the US Sega Company established a branch by the name of Sega of America in 1986 that was meant to take advantage of the resurgent market in video games in America at that time. However the market for Sega Company did not pick up too well in North America due to poor marketing strategies applied by the company thus Sega lost its market to its competitors.
The Sega Company had to restrategise its marketing dynamics to put their company above their competitor. In this effort they introduced a Sega mega drive in North America which springed up the momentum for the business of games for Sega.
The Sega company has also registered a chain of successes with the most applauded being the virtua fighter that saw the Sega company achieve the greatest. Sega managed to create game play and graphics. This was one of the video games that were on display at the Smithsonian. Despite their successes Sega Company dropped for 35% in the home market game industry especially after the release of the Sega 32 xs. In 1994 the Sega Company also launched Sega channel which was a subscription gaming service that was delivered by local companies. The subscribers received a special cable connection from a cartridge adapter. This earned Sega about 250,000 subscribers at its peak.
Sega has merged with other companies in its bid to boost the customer outreach one of the companies that merged with Sega was the Bandai Company though their merge was short lived as it was invaded by the cultural differences between the two companies. Sega later launched the dream cast game in 1999 in North America which was not so effective to compete price wise because of its poor makeup. But it was made of technology that Sega allowed other technical games to be played more than the competitor's products.
Sega has continued to develop more games targeting the western market and has assigned other acclaimed developers and also Sega has formed many partnerships the most successful being with the fox that saw Sega develop two new games based on alien franchise.
