Sei He Ki: The Mental and Emotional Symbol

Lucy Myers
Sei he ki (pronounced say hay key) is the second symbol given to Usui Reiki Level II practitioners. It promotes harmony and emotional and mental healing. You can use the sei he ki to do the following:

Get rid of unwanted habits and beliefs. This is a simple process, as far as Reiki treatments themselves are concerned, but can take many treatments to complete. If you know the habit you want to break, think of it while drawing or visualizing the sei he ki around you. You can also meditate on the symbol with the intent to release any habits that don't serve your highest good. It can also change negative beliefs, or those that are no longer true for you, as well as negative social or parental conditioning and programming.

Improve relationships. If you're having trouble in any relationship, visualize the sei he ki surrounding the people involved, especially if you're arguing. Intend it to bring any issues to the surface and give you the wisdom and strength to work through them.

Improve memory. If you've forgotten something, whether it's a name, an answer on a test, your keys, or anything at all, you can use the sei he ki to help you remember it. Just put your hands on the top of your head, and visualize the sei he ki there. Then, say, "I will remember ___ within --- (time period)." The mental and emotional healing symbol, which improves the function of both sides of the brain, will help you remember what you've forgotten.

Reduce stress. If you're tense and feeling stressed out, put both hands on the top of your head, and visualize the sei he ki spinning in the center of your head. Rather than making you dizzy, this spinning symbol will facilitate harmony, balance, and stress relief on all levels.

Heal physical problems. You can even use the sei he ki to heal physical problems. This is because mental or emotional issues are the underlying cause of many physical symptoms. To do this, first use the cho ku rei (or focus symbol) to focus on the physical problem. Then, when you're clearly focused on it, use the sei he ki with a positive, present tense affirmation like, "I'm healing the emotional and mental issues causing this physical problem." You should repeat this for at least five minutes per treatment and three to four days in a row. Stop, coming back to it in a month or two, to evaluate whether there's been any change.

Protect you. Many people and things around us release negative energy. To keep yourself from taking in this draining energy, visualize the sei he ki around you, intending it to protect you and only let in positive energy.

There are as many uses for the sei he ki as there are mental and emotional issues, and more. You can even use it for chronic psychological conditions, although Reiki is never a substitute for medical or psychological treatment by a licensed professional. Reiki practitioners do not diagnose, cure, or heal. But Reiki can assist a person in his or her own healing journey, and never does harm to anyone. So receiving Reiki treatments for a psychological problem will only help.

Try the sei he ki on everything you can think of, and see what works for you!
